I’m going to play the game for as long as I can manage. I’m 100% certain that I won’t finish it. This would have been an amazing AAA game more than a decade ago.

The Good:
1. The fight mechanics are fun. Battles with big bosses require constant movement and include some interesting mechanics. Long fights are particularly satisfying.

The Bad:
1. It’s not an open world. The movement and exploration mechanics feel like something from 2010. I had to Google this, but Skyrim came out in 2011, so this feels more like a AAA title from 2005—think along the lines of Fable.
2. Unlocking secrets is incredibly obvious and not fun. For example, to open a secret door, you find a wisp, follow it in the exact order to light some braziers, and that’s it. Exploring feels arbitrary and uninspired. Sometimes, what seems like a hard secret or puzzle turns out to be a reused location for four different quests, and you just can’t access that area yet.
3. The story has some amazing parts, but talking with NPCs is such a slog—it’s boring.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this game as much as I do. It gives off a Minecraft vibe, where I constantly find myself saying, 'just one more block,' and before I know it, hours have passed.

RESTORING A SAVE FROM INN WILL OVERWRITE YOUR LAST SAVE AS SOON AS IT LOADS! Lost all my progress because I wanted to see when my last inn save was level 2... I was wondering if the Camping Counted as an inn save, I guess not. Cool. I hate this game.

It seems that DD2 has retained the cumbersome mechanics reminiscent of the original game from the 2010s, which would be less of an issue if the price point weren’t quite steep at $70. In my opinion, this game requires more than just a few touch-ups for polish; a significant overhaul of many of the core mechanics is needed.

Combat with monsters, which is at the heart of the gameplay, is somewhat awkward, yet it manages to be entertaining. However, given the premium price tag, I expected the game to deliver a more modern experience. I find myself continuing to play, primarily to feel that I've gotten my money’s worth, as I’ve exceeded the two-hour gameplay window and am no longer eligible for a refund.

This game seems expensive, but maybe I am just getting old. It is kind of like Skyrim, after initially leaving a negative review. I have spent some time playing the game and I like it. Despite the price. So review changed.

Do Not Buy - I wish I could return but I am past my two hour mark. I regret spending so much money on a game. Ill break out some of my points below. This feels like a game that was never allowed to have constructive feed back on any mechanic. They got so caught up in what they were doing, and if anyone told the devs this featured seemed weird or clunky they ignored the feed back entirely. So the game looks awesome on paper, but when playing it there is no soul or fun to the game.

- The story would be appealing to a 7 year old that has a hard time reading. I mean if you feel you kid is too young to play dark souls and want to prep them for Dark Soul, may do the trick.

- This game holds your hand so much and explains so little. It is amazing the amount of time going through tutorials (beware tutorials and teaching mechanics will eat through 2 hours of play through which effectively makes the game nonreturnable) and yet there are hundreds of mechanics that come out of no where that do not make sense. The unexplained or explained mechanics are not intuitive. A great example is a fort raid. I walked up to some guys with an exclamation point outside a fort. Once I talked to them it initiated a raid on the fort, I could not back out. Not only that I was warned not do cause any collateral damage. There are only bad guys at staged levels. So you have lots of time to wander the fort. While wondering the fort, there does not seem a way to cause collateral damage to anything? There is no loot to find. It is just an empty fort until you reach these predefined stages where you fight people. During that raid on the fort I was exploring and fell out of the fort and took about 20 minutes to find another way to climb something to get back in.

- The choice system feel inspired by fable, but somehow seems a lot more childish. Fable had simple mechanics and the choices were obvious. This takes the level of obviousness to a whole new level and the narrator explains the choice to the point of tedium. What is annoying, is sometimes the mechanics for showing which choice are good or bad take a while to appear on screen. I saw some weird mouse thing about to be executed on a stage outside. You could choose to interact with the mouse tied to a post or a stand which the executioner (or judicial authority?) was speaking from. I went to check out the stand, because I wanted to check for loot before letting the little creature go. After I clicked the action button on the stand, the icon showing me this was a "bad" choice popped up... Also This is an example of a mechanic that was not explained. I guess it is intuitive if I was playing slower?

- The leveling system is annoying. Lets say I want to level up hand-to-hand combat. Well, after I level up I select hand to hand combat at level 2. All the items in hand to hand combat are already learned? Okay, I want to learn a Psi power. Oh those dont take level up points, I need to collect something else.

- This is not an open world. I am 4.5hrs in the game right now. Not in the way skyrim is an open world. You have follow the quest line to progress. After the main tutorial being introduced to the world. You have to choose the path of peace or domination. You are given limited mobility and if you explore areas you are not supposed to be in, some locations are still on the map and explorable, but are entirely empty unless you at a specific point in the story where you can interact with the location. Even after you choose a path, you are limited in how far you can progress. It is annoying to find some place cool to explore and literally have nothing there because the location is entirely story bound.

- Things to fight are scarce unless the location has some significance or you are at the correct point in time in the story. On other hand you can find a really cool looking location then out of nowhere a giant boss will pop out without warning. Literally out of thin air. The narrator will say something and if you are not prepared you will likely die fairly quickly.

- There are side exploration quests. When you find Brick Town you have to find a loot to complete a quest. There is tons of loot in the location, no one to fight, and it is as boring as this sounds.

- The world just is not interesting to explore. It was cool at first but lost interest quickly once you realize there are not hidden gems to find on your own. Everything explored through the story. This is not a BoTW type of game. At least 4.5 hours into the game. But at what point does it become an actual open world? 10 hours?

- Fight mechanics are pretty cool. Fights take forever in a dark souls kind of way, but give you way to many healing objects. You could fight maybe 10 guys and it will take 10 minutes to beat them. 3 minutes of time will be spent healing. This may just be because I suck at the game. The fights just take to long and literally get boring.
