Absolute blast of a game. Fun alone, with friends, randoms all around good. Fail going stealth? No issue, just shoot your way through. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, it puts fun first.

I do have a few wishes for the game:
Although weapon variety is pretty great, I wish I could change attachments on a weapon itself rather than swap to an entirely new gun.

There are some guns that do not have elite/higher rarity variants. I would love to use the AK (which lacks any attachment variants or higher rarity versions. not counting the 74u.), however compared to other weapons available if you use the ak its kinda holding you back.
Perhaps we could level up our weapons and choose stats for them?

Last thing is I would love to have the RPG as a permanent equipment item that I can take on any mission. its so fun on the nuke mission

This game captures every fun part of the original call of duty games without any micro transactions or kernel level anti cheats. There isn't a very large player base but that is made up with the ability to add bots to the game and host your own dedicated servers (with bots!). With workshop support and the potential of future updates adding a campaign and zombies I am excited for what may come. Even so this game is very much so worth it in its current state. Just fun.

This game even in its early access state has a ton of replayability. Learning about the monsters, environmental hazards, and how to meet quota. It's a ton of fun, especially since you can experience it with friends.

Over all, it's one of those rare early access games that already feels fairly complete at launch and is well worth the money.

Coming from someone who has played through Left 4 Dead more times than I can count, I can say that The Anacrusis captures what made running through a campaign in Left 4 Dead so fun.

The style and setting are great and I can see great potential for future official episodes. The director is as unforgiving as ever. If the director thinks you're doing a bit too well it wont hesitate to break you down a bit. The scaling difficulty makes sure that your skills are always put to the test.

Matter compilers. They are one of the coolest things in the game, basically they are random upgrade stations you can find throughout the maps. Some are even a bit hidden! If you're ever played Gunfire or are familiar with rogue likes, you basically get a choice of 3 scrolls, all of which have a pretty heavy impact on how well you perform later in the episode. There are some really cool synergys you can get too! Like one time I got the perfect synergy that always gave my character adrenaline, so I was super fast and basically invulnerable.

On the regular game mode you get access to an arsenal of weapons to fit your preferred play style. While this can make the game very fun as you can just pick what you want rather than playing through half the game till you find the primary weapon you like. However, if you enjoy that added scavenger hunt there are things called modifiers, while there is currently no way to select what modifiers you want yourself, but there are weekly challenges that change up the game greatly and sometimes offer some cool rewards. One of the first challenges they had was Scavenger Hunt which removes the supplies from the airlock/safe room which I really hope they bring back, it was so fun. Right now they have and all brutes challenge, where there are WAAAAAY more brutes than normal and you have to run through episode 3, which can be pretty difficult!

The aliens and special aliens are all pretty good. While I initially thought that the flasher was just kind of annoying, the flasher really grew on me. There's nothing like hearing that audio cue and then just tensing up expecting all hell to break loose.

I will warn though that of course this game is early access and will be a while until it is fully polished. The game currently does not have a way to make private games (this will be coming soon), it does not have a way to host your own dedicated server (dedicated servers have been confirmed). You also cannot play singleplayer/offline at the moment (this has been confirmed as well). There are bots so you will never be down a teammate.
Since I originally reviewed the game, there has been quite a bit of polish and bug fixes done to the game. Still not perfect of course, but there are more little details you can appreciate and even less instances where the game just breaks. Using Steam Proton (Linux) the intro videos sometimes require me to restart the game, but fortunately there is a rejoin button on the main menu so getting back in with your friends is barely even a hassle.

They added seasons to the game. So basically you get quests/challenges while you play that once you complete can be used to unlock cosmetic items like weapons skins, player skins, and more.

The developers, they are some of the most passionate devs I've seen. They answer just about any question you have and respond to feedback both positive and negative. Although I'm not directly involved in the community because it is mostly on Discord, they still do look and care about the Steam discussions.

Overall, this is a pretty fun game that is familiar yet so different. The gunplay is nice, the characters are fun and the style is cool. It has a lot of missing features at the moment, but on its own I can see myself running through episodes to scratch that fun co op shooter itch.

TLDR:
I recommend it if you want a fun L4D-like co-op shooter and you are willing to bare with the currently missing features.
Otherwise this is definitely a game to follow for updates, then get it when you see an update has features that are a deal breaker for you right now.

TL;DR: The game is good, but the devs may mark you as a cheater if you're too good. That and you/your friends may get bored quickly.

I really wanted to recommend this game, I can't do that because there are fundamental issues with the game and some interesting choices made by developers.

I will say though that the game is good. There are a lot of fun things to do in this game. So if I were you I would look at gameplay of the available game worlds and maybe look at some of the workshop condos available to get an idea of what you can do before you decide whether or not to get this game.

Players/Friends stop playing
Over the year I've played I have recommended the game many times and have even bought my friends copies of the game. However all of these people no longer play the game. The game has an issue with keeping an audience. With the plaza, the condos, and the game worlds it takes very little time to "see it all" and be done. That's why when there are major updates there will be a huge increase in players and then it drops off again.
There's nothing to really keep people playing. Yes there are cosmetic items you can unlock, and the games are fun, but there's no real sense of progression other than getting better at the game itself.
You earn units to upgrade your condo and buy cosmetics for your character, but there is something missing in this game to keep people coming back. Whether it's the lack of people being social in the game, or some game worlds being so empty that you can't find/start a game, or even if you're not into building a condo, I think the reason differs person to person.

Ball Race Leaderboards Problem
My major reason for now not recommending the game is because the recent action taken against the Ball Race leaderboards.
As you can see by my hours I have played this game a lot, and many of those hours were playing Ball Race.
For those people who don't know there was a launch glitch known as 'buffering' that allowed players to get an impossible/unfair time to people who didn't know about the glitch. Recently this glitch was banned (or at least so I've heard) and as a result a lot of top level Ball Race players were banned/marked for suspected cheating. Upon providing video evidence a lot of these players were unbanned. To me I feel like I constantly need to be recording my runs in case I get a time that is really good. That's not how I want to play. I want to play the game without having to feel like I need to look over my shoulder and make sure I have evidence to prove my innocence.

Conclusion
If you really want this game and it seems cool, go for it, but be aware that you may have a hard time keeping your friends interested or maybe even keeping yourself interested. And be wary about the possibility of getting too good or you may be marked a cheater.

85% Don't buy.
TL:DR: Save your money and buy Minecraft OR look around on gamejolt for a Minecraft-like game, they're uploaded all the time.

This game really isn't the greatest. It's something that you pick up for maybe an hour or two, but then put back down because there are other games to play.
It's not horrible, but the overall feeling of playing the game is bleh and sluggish. Also, zombies 'grab' you which is bull**** because the zombies run 2-3 times faster than you.
On the bright side, at least the developers didn't abandon the PC port like we all thought they did and they are now actively updating the game.(After a few years...)
