With the addition of Music keyboard shortcuts assigned to controller buttons have been updated by Valve for steam@steamos BPM
IDNK if there has been shortcuts made for controller/keyboard volume control and/or if they are just not working due to pulseaudio configuration.
It should be possible to map keys and keyboard shortcuts to you're liking using xev and xmodmap or if you can confirm already assigned key/s make a configuration file for xboxdrv for controller in BPM.
Alternatively jstest-gtk may be an option for mapping media buttons to controller buttons/axis's.
I'm gaming on my 42" HDTV with K+M and a PC speaker system. It would be a nice addition.
In fact, it doesn't work in BPM only. Be it SteamOS or Steam client on Ubuntu.
The media keys can then easily be mapped to controller using xboxdrv - which also stops the home button led's flashing on my xbox type controller as well as giving proper mouse look with cursor when using bpm browser. Using xpad for controller gives what looks like steam controller optimisations using blue circles for web navigation.
