You connect the controller to your system with a usb cable. The wireless receiver doesn't work yet.

You can use a steam link (or nvidia shield android TV) with virtualhere to stream your PC games from a windows PC using ANY input device including xbone controllers wirelessly, fight sticks, steering wheels and more on the client device.

Virtualhere licensed version for multiple USB devices (127) is available for purchase or the one device free version is available directly from virtualheres's website.

Going by info on virtualhere website it looks like the steam store virtualhere for link is simply virtualhere for android recompiled using steamworks for steam store and steam client and other proprietary software compatibility.

I don't think that VirtualHere will work well on SteamOS, especially for a Linux newbie.

Just one more reason to choose other options for gaming in the living room. virtualhere is literaly plug and play after installing. shield android tv gamestream virtualhere and your windows gaming rig is all that is needed, together with any input device supported by game, to enjoy your steam games in the living room.

I've used the free VirtualHere server and client on SteamOS proper before. It works fine in GNOME desktop mode. Maybe the Steam version of the app may be optimized for SteamOS-session?

BTW, VirtualHere will let you use IHS streaming with a wireless Xbox One controller.

There is some work being done to get the wireless Xbox One controller dongle to pair with the controller on Mac OS X but so far it only enters pairing mode and then the driver crashes, thus doesn't work. On Linux, Xbox One & Elite controllers are fully supported with USB wired configuration.

The good news is the upcoming revised wireless Xbox One controller for Xbox One S uses either Bluetooth or Wifi Direct, meaning making it work on Linux wireless is likely much more plausible in a short amount of time and doesn't require a special dongle (as long as bluetooth is supported on the PC).

This said, I think one possible hack solution to *maybe* get the Xbox One controller to work wireless on Linux may be as follows:

* Install the latest VMware Player or VirtualBox on Linux
* Download the Windows 10 ISO free from Microsoft website then install inside the VM.
* Install VMware Tools or Virtualbox Guest Additions in the Windows 10 VM guest.
* Make sure the Windows VM has USB 2.0 or 3.0 controller enabled in VM settings (not 1.1).
* Make sure to enable bridged networking for the Windows VM guest in VM settings.
* Plug in the Xbox One Wireless USB controller dongle into your Linux PC, boot the Windows VM, click the device to pass the Xbox One wireless dongle into the VM, then install the Xbox One Controller + Dongle driver in Windows 10 VM guest.

Now you should have the Xbox One controller working wireless inside the Windows VM.

* Now install the latest Synergy 1.7.6 in both Linux host and Windows 10 VM. The Windows VM would be the Synergy server and the Linux host would would be the Synergy client. Afterwards, configure Synergy hotkeys on the server to switch between systems and make sure local IPs match so it can connect.

* Finally install Xpadder or similar on the Windows 10 VM guest and configure the Xbox One controller (mouse move, clicks, and map WASD keys) to behave as a keyboard and mouse. Then use the keyboard hotkey to swap focus to the Linux desktop.

Now you should be able to use your Wireless Xbox One Controller on Linux as a mouse and play games using simulated keyboard and mouse mapping.

You can also configure the VM to run headless (prevent VM window from showing) and automatically pass the Xbox One Wireless controller USB dongle into the VM at launch.

I don't have an Xbox One Wireless controller to test this but I just tried all this with my Steam Controller wirelessly (minus the Xpadder part as it isn't needed with Steam Controller) and it works, so it may work with the Xbox One wireless controller + dongle.

Found this:

@wjbuys Make sure that at least USB 2.0 support is enabled in the VM, I had the same problems until I activated it.
