The Red Ball Express was a famous logistics convoy for the Allied forces that was created out of necessity on a whim during the invasion of Normandy in the weeks following D-Day on August 25th, 1944. The supply line was named after the term "Red Ball" which was originally a civilian designation for priority freight on trains, and the Red Ball Express would reflect this by having priority on roads leading up to the front line, as well as dedicated routes which were closed to civilian traffic.

Ultimately, the supply operations would feed the Allied war machine and keep the ball rolling on the Western Front for 83 days until it was disbanded on November 16th of 1944. The Red Ball Express consisted of nearly 6,000 vehicles which moved an estimated 12,500 tons of supplies every day, and was operated by a 75% majority of African-American soldiers.
