@Graypairofsocks Maybe but hassling valve for text that hardly anyone sees is not worth the effort. We're already thankful they gave us a medal to begin with; best not to be too greedy with them.

@Penguineer Yes. The plugin and medal-qualifying scripts will be posted publicly so everyone can see exactly how the progress tracking works and what the medal requirements are.

How exactly are you gonna track the progress of what missions people completed if its an unofficial tour? Server plugin or something?

I'm pretty sure you can ask valve to fix the item descriptions (although valve time would be in play).
Hydrogen 2.1.2018 klo 16.32
No, we don't have custom descriptions for the medal unfortunately. They are all the same for everyone. (In hindsight we should have done that, but since we haven't ever run a contest like this before, we wanted to play it safe and keep the medal the same for everybody.)

Will the medals have custom-ish descriptions describing in what way they were obtained? Like "Mission Winner", "Mission Submitter" and "Tour Participant", etc... I know Ready Steady Pan medals have descriptions like that describing participants and helpers.

Not following your plugin comment.

And yes you can paint them differently and have different colored tanks. Admittedly it's not really a "good" prize, but since medals require Valve's approval (not something we can put in whenever and however much we want) we have to work with what Valve allows us to give out.

The better prize is that contest participants (and winners) don't have to complete the tour to win the medal since they already receive a medal for participating anyway.

We're among the first to ever try involving players into community contests in some form (in this contest, in the form of a community MvM tour) so we want to see how this pans out before we commit to mult-medal events (if we ever run another contest in the future).

The ping is a good point and a valid concern, but the problem with hosting the tour on other servers is, similar to the quickplay fiasco Valve had trouble dealing with, other servers can report false tour data ("rig" the tour) to award medals to people who don't deserve them. There's nothing stopping a server from sending us 500 steam IDs and claiming those people did the tour (and we'd have no evidence if they really did or not, and it'd be painful to validate them).

I don't think players (and contest participants) will be happy if the medal can be cheated this way, which is why, at least for now, it's restricted to our servers only. It's the same reason why Valve doesn't allow TF2 contracts/campaigns and mann up to run on community servers.

The server is located in Philadelphia, which gives decent ping to all of USA and Europe. For best results, try to play the tour along with USA & EU players. This is what we did in the Mappers vs Machines event for Australians and it worked out.
