If I turn off any of my monitors or my A/V receiver (which is hooked up through DisplayPort -> HDMI), Windows freaks the hell out and resizes the desktop according to whatever remaining displays are turned on.
I cannot figure out a good solution to this problem, it's driving me nuts. I don't like leaving every freaking monitor in my home theater room on all the time, but Windows 10 doesn't want to work properly unless I do that.
The only solution I've found, and this is a stupid one at best, is to engage each display device's power saving mode: "Display Off". The display device stays on, but the panel isn't powered. It saves electricity, but I'll be damned if I didn't have to leave them on constantly in Windows 8.1 :-\
I had to rollback to windows 8.1. now everything works as supposed.
You will then be able to stream games at resolutions up to 1080p when the host monitor is turned off or not connected.
then in steam -> settings -> remote play -> advanced host options
tick 'change res to match client'
I am actively having this problem right now in 2025... It works when I login with teamviewer and stream via steam at the same time. Though this is (for obvious bandwidth reasons) far from ideal.
