Startrek Birth of the Federation

Did anyone else pickup or try this game when it was released? It's a turn based star trek game
I found it to be one of the most addiciting games when I was young, I still kept going back to it years later
Only downside is it's buggy, crashes a lot and has slow down issues the further into the game you get
But it was addictive.

I also played this.... I never found out about its modding community however. I think I played this one before I learned of mods(lol). Very good game that I revisited several times before setting down for good.
Any suggested mod combination to revive interest?

I dont remember a whole lot, but I recall I liked how they handled minor races.

What's EL?
Yea, each race in BOTF had their own UI, it was nice
I always liked the Fed Lcars UI.
Managed to get it working on Windows 8.1, so I'm happy lol
No crashes yet either!

Endless Space was Amplitudes first foray into the genre. It's a Space game, but it's not the typical space game. I really enjoyed, but it does have it's flaws. The studio is working on either the last patch or 2nd to last patch right now. I'm happy about that... But it takes us away from the topic, so sorry to the OP.

I continue to enjoy Endless Space. The lack of a tutorial means that the learning curve was very, very steep early on ... but once you get over that initial hump, dang, it's a surprisingly well-made game.

.... I'd learn Klingon, JUST to play a game as the Klingons, in the "proper" language!!!! :D :D

Lol, I'd love a voice controlled, touch screen friendly game like that
I do remember a video where someone got this game working on an iPad........
It's sad, I know, but I'd buy an ipad just to play this game, lol :P

custom UI, or faction specific UI doesnt really appeal to me.
Always look for big gameplay enhancements.

Well, BOTF was long before downloadable updates or patches were commonplace, so it pretty much is still the game it was all those years ago. It holds its own, though, especially if you really enjoy Star Trek.

I seem to recall there being lots of community or independently driven attempts to create "successors" to BOTF. Anyone know of or play any of those? I haven't tried, but I don't think BOTF would work on Win 8.

I got BOTF working on Windows 8.1, so it should work on 8

The mouse is super laggy, it's unplayable, so you do need that program to make it work.

This is my empire so far, the map does fill up pretty quick and i'm experiencing slow downs between turns, which is a shame, but it's always been that way.
