Meaning of each tag?
Maybe there should be a FAQ somewhere (in barter.vg and maybe also here in the forums) in order to help users understand what each of the tags means.

I could help with such a list, if it isn't available yet.

I'm currently wondering what "clearance" means. Is it just "I'm trying to get rid of it"? If so, what would be the use of it?

Thanks

I added "clearance" as a way to signal that low offers would be OK. For some, getting a "lowball" offer is an insult. This tag would be an invitation for any offers, without risking any potential insults.

Here are all the tags available currently, along with the description:

Trading Tags
I plan to remove "given away" and "decommissioned" tags from tradable collections. These tags will be on the items' pages and appear within the [ * ] tag.

One suggestion was for a bundle tag. This would appear on the offer page.
✽2 [ tooltip: Humble Indie Bundle 15 (tier 2), Humble Indie Bundle 12 (tier 2) ]

Other possible changes:

Rename:
deluxe, special edition => deluxe / special (single tag)
not tradeable => giftable-only
cannot currently trade, gift or exchange game? Set quantity to 0

Remove:
all [H:W] tags
[W] tier 2, [W] wishlist (use High Tier instead)
[W] tier 1 (use Mid or Low Tier)
Clearance (use Low Tier)

Tag & Number
This would require the most modifications to the current system.

Combined tag with identifier, Combined A, Combined B, Combined C

Gems, Ref, ToD, TF2 Key, CS Case Key, Trading Card minimum bid value or quantity
e.g. Gems [ x200 ], Trading Card [ USD .50 ], Trading Card [ x5 ]

No longer tag on tradable collection:
restricted gift, decommissioned, revocation risk, given away

For reference, here are the current trading tags ordered by frequency of use:

This is coming in very handy for reference, thank you to you both, MakoSipper for the OP and Barter for taking the time to answer the query for us all. I, for one, am most grateful for the topic :mdhappy:

Would you please add locked: LATAM (or locked: LA), Redeemable only in Latin America region?
LATAM is substantially different from SA, since it includes Central America too, and most gifts bought at the Steam store nowadays are available to all LATAM.

Thanks for considering! :GS_Man:

CIS, TR, SA, SEA are the standard Steam region locks. I don't see an official Steam post that names the regions, but those tags seem to follow the general naming convention. Despite the tag name, "locked: SA" covers "Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Bahamas, Belize, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Paraguay, Suriname, El Salvador, Uruguay and Venezuela." Some tooltips will lists the countries covered in the region.

I understand your point, but the Steam store is not the only source of regional restrictions. In fact, with keys the matter is completely different.

As you can check on SteamDB, there are publishers who create specific subs for regions which do not match those of the Steam store. The recent Civilization Bundle from HB is an example.

Some game keys are usually locked to BR and IN as well.

Nuuvem also states on some products the availability only for South America. It's hard to tell if that's enforced by the purchasing IP address or by the key itself, but to be on the safe side an additional LA tag would be useful, IMHO.

Since at Barter we mostly trade keys and HB giftlinks, I think a broader tag spectrum, as well as the ability to filter regional tags when matching, would be a huge plus over competing sites :-)

The region locks for that bundle are bizarre, "Poland, Greece, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Croatia, Lithuania, Bulgaria." Is that a common region? That type of EU region lock is likely in violation of parallel trade laws. However, traders have to deal with the restrictions as set in the meantime.

"region locked, Can be redeemed only in certain geographic [regions]" is the catch-all tag for the non-standard restrictions. There are a few options.
  • create a new tags for each specific region lock, which I hope would be a manageable number.
  • allow users to add a list of countries to the generic region lock tag.
  • region lock tag links to the bundle or game with a description of the restriction.

I think this is a very good option!!!

Furtermore, you could create a "usertag" field, analog to the current numeric "userfield" but to allow entry of custom short descriptive strings instead of numbers.

This way the generic region lock would be just a special case of this usertag field.

What do you think?
ellipsism Apr 28, 2017 @ 6:21am
The usertag stores an int, so it would require some reworking. Users could enter a list of countries (two letters, comma separated), which would be inserted into a new database table and receive a unique id. The region lock tag would then have this unique id and could display the list of countries.

I'm not sure how many people would do this. The warnings aren't standardized either so sometimes it's the list of countries with full names, other times it's the two-letter code. This could be its own topic.

Here is the most popular tags in 2018:

  • userfield (applied 11826 times this year)
  • may keep (1480)
  • no offers (826)
  • Gems (798)
  • already used? (566)
  • pending trade (501)
  • combined ⛓ (488)
  • Humble gift link (338)
  • giftable-only🎁 (314)
  • CSGO Key (206)
  • revoked? ⌫ (166)
  • +DLC (155)
  • locked: CIS🌍 (144)
  • region locked 🌐 (128)
  • ✍! (128)
  • ToD (119)
  • alpha / beta (106)

The intended meaning will differ if applied to wishlist rather than tradable. This is a summary based on the tag used in tradable.

userfield is an integer applied by the owner of the collection
may keep rather than trade this, the owner is considering activating it
no offers do not send an offer for this game
Gems how many gems the owner would like in exchange for the game
already used? may have already used this key, should probably send first in an offer
pending trade included in an accepted trade
combined ⛓ usually a Steam sub that includes multiple games in a single key
Humble gift link more useful as a wishlist tag indicating the recipient wants a Humble link
giftable-only🎁 this was originally intended for Steam inventory gifts that couldn't be traded until 30 days after purchases, but it is likely used for other purposes now
CSGO how many CSGO keys the owner would like in exchange for the game
revoked? ⌫ developers/publisher revoked many keys and may affect tagged game
+DLC similar to combined, includes the game and DLC
locked: CIS🌍 can be activated only in Commonwealth of Independent States
region locked 🌐 can be activated in certain regions only, verify before trading
✍! The game version / title was changed automatically and not by the owner, recent example, Humble listed the wrong version of Wasteland 2 https://barter.vg/i/65401/
ToD Tour of Duty Ticket
alpha/beta Can be a benefit or a warning, verify if it is time limited alpha/beta

Of the 90% that didn't make sense, are there specific tags for which you would like explanations?

I found this thread because there seem to be a lot of codes, jargon, symbols, etc on barter.vg. The original questioner seemed to have the issue. Nothing here is of any help at all, just lists of codes and symbols as if it all should be self-explainitory, which I assure you it isn't.
