Xbox Driver Installation Failure Elite Series 2

1. I have an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller but when I open steam it only registers as an Xbox One Controller. Is that correct or should it says Elite Series 2?
2. I keep getting the Xbox Driver Installation error about making sure I'm running as a normal user and the steam is up to date.
As far as I can tell I am running as a normal user and steam is up to date. I do see that steam is running with elevated access but I"m not selecting run as admin. I am in the default profile on the controller too (did the long hold). Are there any other options for me to try to get the driver the successfully install?

The Elite Controller is a XBOX One gamepad, nothing wrong with it. The mapping is correct all works fine. thank u steam- devs for the great work with gamepads!

The Elite 2 is NOT a Xbox One controller, it uses different Byte packets then other xbox controllers, in terms of a programming and internal design it is much different.

Steams controller settings is listing the Elite 2 incorrectly, this has been reported to them by myself. Also, I am able to play with Elite 2 via bluetooth and Wired Xbox One on my mac with Big Sur. The key is you need to manually approve (sign) the driver so when it installs it will be allow to function. See my post for help:

Can you find out why Steam is running with elevated access?

1. I am running Windows 10.
2. I see the elevated status in Task Manager. Under the details tab you can add an elevated column. Most of my programs are listed as Yes, including Steam. I wasn't sure if this was relevant and came across it when trying to verify Steam wasn't running as Admin when I wasn't specifically selecting to do so.

Oooh! That is nothing and normal. The new Task Manager has a column called "Elevated" which directly informs you which processes are running as administrator. That’s all that means. And I take it your using a PC.

Also i take it the error your getting is windows trying to install the device and its resulting into an error which means you have something else going on since it should be pretty much an instant process. (Note, Windows 10 has some serious bluetooth issues so its not all you)

So the best thing you can do is start fresh to troubleshoot this, plus its faster.

I would remove all and any controller drivers youhave installed (steam gamepad driver, 360 controller if on mac, ect) then I would reinstall a copy of Windows 10, its doent remove data just restored the core files. (But backup just in case), this way you have everything new and fresh. Then this should most like fix any hardware errors you were getting.

Then try an pair your controller in windows 10 / settings / bluetooth / set up bluetooth device (1st option, not 3rd) if this works, then go into steam bif picture mode to install the gamepad driver again. You should be go to go then.

I also have this same issue, and I'm not going to reinstall Windows 10 to try fixing it.

Well to each his own i guess. I can use my Elite 2 on Windows 10 just fine. In the times I installed windows and it didnt work there was something wrong with the install, the moment i reinstalled windows it resolved it self. But overall this should work without problems.

At the very least, just remove the device, reboot, re-add the device. (Also, there is a known issue when adding a controller via bluetooth with any other bluetooth device, keep that in mind)

the elite 2 just won't work on steam under macOS big sur on apple silicone Mac right ? am I correct?

someone got the xbox series controller to work on the M1. so the elite is not much different since Series controllers are based off elite. but i cant confirm myself since i don’t have an M1.
