how hard would it be to implement a live global chat function per-game?

I don't know, it just seems like the direction these platforms should start heading if they want as many dedicated users as possible. what if you added a global chat function, with regionally organized chat rooms, to every game in your store.

i think that it would be a nightmare to moderate each chat, but if someone smarter than me can pull that off, one gaming platform could create a unique "social media for gamers" experience that's accessible in your steam overlay. call it a pipe dream, but its an interesting thought to play with if you consider the way hardcore fans interact with their communities on other platforms.

There is a chat for each game. They aren't regional, just global.
Dying Light 2 for example. Click on the "ALL" tab in the game hub, that is this page.

Look below the tabs at the top of the page and you will see this.

Click on the Follow link first.
Now, click on the Group Chat link to join the games chat.
Each game hub has these.

Sure thing!
Make sure you Follow first. That is the requirement to join, which sucks cause I don't want to have news from every game I want to join the chat for.
But yeah, most people don't see that and only move onto the discussions page of the game hub.
