Need to be able to bind the DS4 touchpad to a single button
Right now there is no way to bind the DS4 touchpad to a single Xinput button. Meaning that if I want the game I'm playing to register a Start Button press anytime I click or touch the touchpad, I cannot do that.

The closest you can get right now is to set the touchpad to "button pad" input, then bind all 4 A/B/X/Y buttons to the same input. But that is imperfect because it only registers the top, bottom, and sides of the touchpad. So if you press on the bottom-right corner of the touchpad, the input will not register.

This is possible to do with both DS4Windows and InputMapper, so I hope the Steam configuration, which is very versatile otherwise, will be able to do this also.

Make it directional pad. Required click OFF. Bind click to Start or whatever you want. There you go.

I know that there's several workarounds, but it needs to be a simple single-button bind like you have for all the face buttons to streamline the process.

I also pointed out why this doesn't work in my OP.

The best workaround right now is to set it as a mouse input, turn down th sensitivity to zero and bind click action to what you desire. But we really shouldn't have to do so many steps to bind a single button.

I think you overlooked this work around I mentioned. The difference between button pad and directional pad is you can bind the whole pad click to one action. If you set the required click setting to Off and leave all the directional bingding to blank, then you can bing that one button click to what you what.

I had to uninstall the beta because of page scrolling issues, but I will try this after the next update. It could work, although I still wonder if that setting will cover the entire touchpad area - does it work even if I only touch on one of the far corners?

Thanks for explaining it in any case. I do still hope Valve simplifies things by simply making a single button option for "style of input".
