Unable to see friend's messages on PC. Not visually updating.
[Check PPS; this issue applies to both beta and not beta.]

As of seemingly yesterday, my friend's messages do not get sent to me properly.

I noticed this because I put my computer to sleep every night, and messages that weren't there when I went to bed, were mysteriously there in the morning, despite being sent at like 3pm the previous day. And when I tried to communicate with the friend and still got no response, I decided to check my phone Steam, and sure enough, there were replies.

Seemingly, phone steam only sees the messages because it updates manually every time I open it, which was how I confirmed with my friend whether or not the things I tried to fix it with worked.

This is not a new friend, I've talked to them for years, this is the first time I've had this particular issue. I haven't changed anything on Steam or with any of my other PC settings.

I've tried;
- Restarting Steam.
- Asking them to restart steam.
- Signing out and back in.
- Setting Offline Mode and back to online.
- Clearing Download Cache.
- Being on Beta or not on Beta.

I'm on Windows 10.

PS; I am hesitant to reinstall Steam, as I don't know if that means I'll have to reinstall games or re-set settings or whatever. And if it does, and that's my only option, it's enough trouble that I'd rather just use Discord until the issue resolves itself.

PPS; Turns out I wasn't on Steam Beta before, and didn't realize that that's what this forum was for. HOWEVER! I changed to the beta, and the issue still persists.

Same issue on my end. I actually have the beta but it's still happening on there. I get notifications and then the chat window refuses to show new ones.

I think I have the same problem, but I'm not on the beta, and I also have this since the small update yesterday. I'm also on Linux.

For me, I see the ltitle green envelope in the Steam library lighting up to indicate that there are new messages, but they never appear in the friends list for this person. If I explicitly sign out of friends and back in, I can suddenly see them.

The same happens outside of Steam: I use a program that works using the Steam Mobile API, and it also does not receive any messages until it is restarted. Could it be some sort of issue server-side?

EDIT: Looks like other related topics are appearing as well: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/3006676913239230813/

Thank you for noting that it wasn't on Beta. I've added it to my main post, but, I hadn't realized I was posting on the beta discussions, and I wasn't initially on beta with the issue. But, upon switching to the beta, the issue still persists.
I have a similar issue where when my friend sends me messages from mobile, I can't see them unless I reset steam, and have to do it again if they send another one. Messages from their pc seem okay, but I tried updating drivers, reinstalling steam, resetting my pc multiple times, and still no good

Same here, messages not updating until I a) see them in Big Picture mode, restart steam completely or login on chrome and just close the chat window after each message, open it up again. It's annoying as heck!

I also have the same problem currently too, very frustrating. Is Steam going to do something about it? :/
What I want to know is how to make steam aware of it. They could be unaware for all I know?

Seems isolated to messages that were sent through steam chat mobile app. Messages sent through desktop come through just fine.

I am experiencing the same problem here. I am led to believe that this problem occurs when a mobile user sends a desktop user a message. Messages sent from desktop users to other desktop users appear with no issues.

Messages sent from desktop also appear for mobile users. The problem seems to only affect mobile to desktop. Well, mobile to browser too, seeing browser users have to refresh the page in order to see new messages.

Same problem

*EDIT*
Work fine in my tabletb, fail with the PC app & PC web

I have the same issue that has been going on for 3 days. I do think it's what people believe which is the cross platform issue (mobile to pc to browser chat)
