Souls "Unsqueezed" - v 0.5.0 [New Config UI / OSD] - (4/8/17)
Download, Install and Configure
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=663922936

Quick-Start Guide
The mod comes pre-configured for 1920x1080 without Aspect Ratio Correction.
To run the game correctly at a non-16:9 resolution you will need:
  • Run ds3t.exe

    • Select the Graphics tab and set Aspect Ratio Correction to On
    • Select your desired resolution from Display Properties
For a detailed description of some of the more technical options in ds3t.exe, refer to the SoulsUnsqueezed.ini and dxgi.ini sections of the guide.

Version History
    Release
  • v 0.5.0: Config UI and OSD
  • v 0.4.0: Installer / Auto-Update + Compatibility Updates
  • v 0.3.5: Global Injector Support
  • v 0.3.4: PlayStation 4 Buttons (Optional) + Compatibility Updates

Known Issues
  • Transitions (fade to white/black) do not cover the entire screen (non-16:9)
This is what the Stretch HUD option is for

  • Changes to graphics settings made in-game will not be saved
Use ds3t.exe to make changes to things like Depth of Field

Hi, I'm trying to report an issue - hopefully this is the right place. I didn't initially think it was a SU problem, but after many hours I narrowed it down to the only possibility. Below is a description of the problem and steps taken, but I regret to say I don't have any logs from SU as a result.

Problem: The game is freezing regularly (sometimes within seconds of starting it, sometimes not for an hour), especially in boss fights, usually but not always preceded by flickering graphical glitches such as flashes of colour or black lines/very stretched out triangles.

I had no problems running the game until I reached the Dancer fight, which was when the problems began, the game crashing perhaps 20 times while I tried to fight the boss. I thought the problem might be my GPU, but it runs other games without issues.

When a crash happens the video totally freezes, occasionally advancing one more frame then stopping, and I often hear a blood splatter sound effect or similar. These freezes are especially common when I or an opponent takes a hit in melee, but also seem to be brought on by certain effects, such as when the large brown wolf in the painted world uses any of his special attacks - which always cause massive graphical issues that fill whole parts of the screen. Freezes can also happen with no apparent trigger. When a freeze happens the game music keeps playing, my screens often go black then return to normal, and the game remains frozen with the music playing until I force quit the program.

I'm running windows 10, 64 bit, up to date but without the creator's update. I'm using a 3440x1440p 75hz screen for the game, and also have 2560x1080, 1920x1080 and 1680x1050 screens connected. I have an i7-4790, a 780ti, 16gb of RAM and a gigabyte board. I'm playing using a wired 360 controller. Of course I'm also using Souls Unsqueezed.

I initially ran the game in a borderless window at 3440x1440p on max settings. Since the problems started I've tried changing to a regular window, changing to regular 1080p, and changing all settings to minimum.

I've tried running the game in windows 7 compatability mode, updating graphics drivers, disabling the steam overlay and verifying my game cache on steam. The issues seem slightly less frequent at 1080p. I've also tried uninstalling Souls Unsqueezed, but it seemed to make no difference.

Solution: I think the problem is 'resolved'. I deleted the entire game (as opposed to just validating it) and redownloaded it, and the crashes were gone. I installed Souls Unsqueezed and it started crashing immediately. I removed Souls Unsqueezed and it continued crashing. I don't understand why or how, but Souls Unsqueezed definitely seems to be causing these crashes, and following the instructions to remove Souls Unsqueezed does not seem to remedy whatever it did to cause them.

I can try to give more explanation or information about my setup if it would be helpful. Playing without SU just doesn't feel right.

Edit: One minor thing that just occurred to me is that I installed the game to an SSD instaed of my regular HD the second time.

It doesn't do anything permanent like this, deleting dxgi.dll is enough to permanently remove the software. This is true of all of my software, so I'm truly sorry it's happening, but it isn't being caused by Souls Unsqueezed.

There are a multitude of factors that can cause stuff like this from driver caching of shaders to accidentally enabling texture dumping. The former should be enabled in 99.9% of cases and disabled only if the driver mis-caches something. Problems caused by texture dumping (namely a fragmented quickly filled hard drive) are kind of self-explanatory :) You can check if dumping got turned on someone in dxgi.ini

Thanks for your reply, and your sympathy, I appreciate it.

Edit: The problem wasn't SUS, the problem was that my GPU had some sort of fault that just didn't show up in other games.

Manually installed as the github link is down for the automatic installer. When I run ds3t, the box under the title "souls unsqueezed configuration" is white and blank. Any suggestions?
Kaldaien May 17, 2017 @ 3:39pm
You may have skipped a step. The config UI uses SUS.ini, but the .7z you manually download and install only includes default_SUS.ini. The automatic installer will always generate SUS.ini from default_SUS.ini, but if you do a manual install you have to od that yourself.

I'm not sure if I'm being dumb, but I can't see anything named defaul_SUS.ini or SUS.ini?

Hi, I have moved DS3 folder to another place and tried to reinstall the mod. But I get this message, what can I do, please?

Use an updated version of SKIM64. Because of certain pirates actions, you can't use the old version anymore.
Wicked Sick May 22, 2017 @ 5:15pm
Oh, thank you for the fast response, kaldaien!
Kaldaien May 22, 2017 @ 5:18pm
OH, also. Don't name the installer that :)

I think it only works as designed if the name of the exe _starts_ with SKIM. You have words before SKIM.

The latest installer version is: https://github.com/Kaldaien/FAR/releases/download/far_057/SKIM64.exe

It's working again. Thanks, Kaldaien ^^

First I want to thank you for your work. Support for non-16:9 monitor should be a must for a pc game but FromSoftware doesn't think so -_-
Anyway I have tried your mod for about 1h and seems to run smooth but my character is a bit squeezed (+fat -high). Other things seems well proportionated or at least I don't find any visual difference. Do you have any idea why?

Hello, will this be updated for performance improvement? Thanks for your work.

Also, I heard you're evacuating, hope things are fine over there.

Danger already passed judging by news and last posts by Kaldaien.
