The 8.3 filenames are needed only to restart games using the compatibility menu. In the case of my MHW mod, you are dealing with dxgi.dll in the game's directory and not SpecialK64.dll in Documents\...
The path that would need 8.3 filenames generated is actually your Steam Library where MHW is installed.
All I'm trying to do is use your mod to make the game look decent instead of washed out while using my hdr projector that uses HDR10. I haven't been able to do any tweaks yet though because when I engage the mod the game comes up and is running but this error comes up and once I click ok or X out it shuts the game down.
Do I need to move my MHW location to a new steam library so it has the 8.3 filename? My library is on a non boot drive which the error mentions why it might not have had the 8.3 filename enabled.
You really ought to run the game in D3D11, then grab the D3D11 archive from my post in MHW's Technical Support forum, apply the config change discussed in the 2/5/20 patch and then you will be good to go without any of this compatibility stuff.
Oh alright I must've missed or forgot that non-support in D3D12. Thanks for the help! I'll post the success or not when I get home to do this.
