I was really disappointed when I read about that.

For the first time since 1997, the Syfy channel will be Stargate free. According to ComingSoon, Syfy will end the action-adventure series, Stargate Universe, in the spring of 2011 after airing the final ten episodes of its second season. While no official reason has been given, low ratings are thought to be the deciding factor.

SGU wasn’t the only series that got the axe. Syfy also canceled this outer space adventure-drama.

The first Syfy series based on Stargate, the 1994 movie, was Stargate SG-1 which picked up where the movie left off. The plot soon moved further away from the original storyline and added additional elements that allowed for a spin-off series, Stargate Atlantis, to be created. SG-1 was on the air for ten years, Atlantis for five years. Stargate Universe was just introduced in 2009 and is already being yanked off the air, which could mean viewers have either grown tired of the Stargate franchise or the new storyline just didn’t appeal to fans.

Stargate Universe was about scientist Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) and his team of military and scientific personnel who end up on the Destiny, a starship built millions of years ago by the Ancients and programmed to go to the far ends of the universe.

At this time, there are no plans for a future Stargate series.
