The Khouja Tribe of WRP

The Khouja traditions are the rites and traditional behaviour of the Khouja.
Within the Khouja, each action is signified by Khouja tradition and is accepted as the Khouja way. If something within the tribe is done contrary to the Khouja way, it would be considered a 'false' action and would be deeply frowned upon by the general populace.
Khouja traditions can be devided into two areas.
The general traditions and the law traditions.

General Khouja traditons.

1. A Khouja would raise his fist and tap it against his chest to greet another person, in order to show respect, be it friend or stranger.
If a given person does not enjoy the respect of the Khouja, the tribe is expected to ignore said person, not even offering a glance in his/hers general direction. Saying goodbye works by either doing the same gesture as described, again, or waiving, depending on the distance.
Khouja does not normally shake hands unless special circumstances apply.

2. The Khouja may be a proud people, but they recognise nobility by bowing their heads slightly while doing their normal greeting. The Khouja normally refers to all forms of nobility as 'Noyan' be it Baron, Jarl or Knight. (The name being first and the title after, as in Tulug Noyan).

3. Khouja tradition dictates that their people must be in selfcontrol and not let their feelings get the better of them. Serious insults and threats against fellow Khouja are frowned upon and further erruption of the conflict may lead to the matter being solved at the tribe council.

4. Khergit and Vaegir religion is intertwined in the Khouja tribe, as a result, the Khouja is expected to respect the Maker as well as their ancestors and the spirits.

5. People outside the tribe is to be treated with respect, unless they are in disfavour of the tribe, a decision normally made by the tribe council.

6. People in disfavour of the Khouja is to be ignored completely as they are no longer worthy of any attention. If circumstances deem it necessary to converse with the disfavoured, one should refer to the disfavoured in third person by his/hers looks rather than his/hers name.

7. Weddings must be blessed by the shaman to be accepted.

Law traditions.

1. The firecouncil is the center of decisions, law and judgement within the tribe. Councils are to be held, if there are either urgent business or politics to be discussed or if there is a quarrel within the tribe and a trial is to be held.
All tribepeople may ask for a council to be held, but the chieftain or the elders will decide the time which said council is to be held.
In the case of a trial:

A trial is to be held if there are any doubts of the guilt of the prosecuted or other circumstances deems it necessary to do so, otherwise the chieftain, in principle, has the right to evict verdicts right away.
The chieftain or elder will act as spokesman and make the case clear before making the people in question present their cases. Witnesses and evidence will be brought forth and confronted with the people in question.
Thereafter the chieftain and the elders will based on what they have heard make their verdict. Many cases may very well need to be resolved by trial by arms.

In the case of an important matter to be discussed:
The Chieftain or an elder will act as spokesman and make the case
beforehand clear before letting anyone else speak. From that point on the spokesman will let people be heard, by taking turns. Only one person may talk at a time. The spokesman will end the debate once there is either an agreement or it is time for a vote. The spokesman may expose settling the matter, if it is deemed necessary to do so. The vote may only be overruled by the chieftain during wartime.


Selection of Chieftain:

If a Chieftain dies, or chooses to stand down, a new chieftain needs to be elected. Claimants to the position will have to either get the majority of votes of the council, or win the positions by beating their opponents in combat.
The elders must support the claim for the claimant to be chieftain.
