An inclusive online gaming community of Linux enthusiasts.

Friendly Linux Players aims to be welcoming to all who would want to join us. By participating in our community, you agree to abide by the terms of our Code of Conduct[FriendlyLinuxPlayers.org].

While making decisions regarding where participation in the community takes place, we have prioritized modern FLOSS technologies and open standards. As a result, joining our Steam group is strictly optional; many of Steam Community's features have been disabled in this group.

Instead, the core of FLiP lives in our hosted services. You may join us in:

flip-matrix-bot[gitlab.com] now publishes a calendar feed of all the events that are hosted by the community! You can subscribe to the calendar here (not a hyperlink, as Steam mangles the protocol):

webcal://flip.earth/feed/events.ics

Now that we have a calendar feed, I may be less diligent in updating the Steam group with new events, since that has to be manually done. The best ways to follow along with our events, now, is to subscribe to the feed and join our the Matrix chat[matrix.to].

I'm excited to play Barotrauma tomorrow, and anything else that comes up in the future!

Schedule or join a gaming event with our new Matrix chat bot

Hey flippers,

For the past few weeks, I have been building a chat bot for our main Matrix chat room[matrix.to]. Introducing flip-matrix-bot[gitlab.com]! The primary goal has been to allow anyone in the community to schedule a gaming event, without needing to coordinate with community moderators. At the moment, you can schedule one with a CLI-like chat interface, and it provides reminders an hour before and at the scheduled start time within the chat. Beyond that, events can be listed or cancelled.

This sort of free-form event hosting has been a dream of mine since the conception of FLiP, and now it is finally here! I will continue to work on the bot to improve the experience and add new features. Please feel free to contribute by providing feedback in Matrix, or opening an issue or merge request on GitLab.

I'm excited to play with people in events scheduled through the bot!
