Crowbar won't decompile my model and I don't know why
Okay, so I'm trying to use Crowbar to decompile a model, but this is what it said when I tried.

Decompiling ".\Shadow.mdl" ...
Reading data ...
Checking for required files ...
Reading MDL file header ...
... Reading MDL file header finished.
ERROR: MDL file does not have expected MDL header ID (first 4 bytes of file) of 'IDST' (without quotes). MDL file was probably extracted with a bad tool.
... Decompiling ".\Shadow.mdl" stopped due to invalid file.

... Decompiling with Crowbar 0.29.0.0: "C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons\ShadowtheEdgeHog\Shadow.mdl" finished.

I used FragMotion to export the mdl (GameStudio A8 MDL7 (.mdl)) file. Can anyone tell me if there's something I'm supposed to do between exporting and decompiling or something?

Based solely on what you stated, it looks like exporting from FragMotion does not actually create an MDL file for the Source engine, but rather in some other MDL format.

I just looked up FragMotion here[www.fragmosoft.com], and you should be exporting to one of these three options:
Half-Life (.mdl) Half-Life (.smd) Half-Life 2 (.smd)

Half-Life (.mdl) isn't on the list of options it's giving me when I click to export the model and Crowbar won't let me decompile .smd files. it only lets me decompile .mdl files. am i missing something?

Yes, you seem to be missing quite a bit of basic info. SMD is one of the types of files you would get if you decompiled an MDL file. :P

so... does that mean i can skip decompiling the .mdl and just export the model as a .smd file? i think the reason "Half-Life (.mdl)" isn't an option might be due to the fact that I'm using the free version of FragMotion (I have a budget of a ham sandwich,) but if I just export a .smd, how would I get the model to work as a ragdoll in GMod?
