The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) assault gun was Germany's most produced armoured fighting vehicle during World War II. It was continually modified and was widely employed as a tank destroyer.

The Ausf. G variant used the Panzer III Ausf. M chassis. Mounted on it was the high-velocity 75 mm StuK 40 L/48 cannon. A 7.92 mm MG34 could be mounted ontop of the superstructure for added anti-infantry protection. From May 1943, side hull skirts (schurzen) were fitted for added armor protection, particularly against Russian anti-tank rifles, but were also useful against hollow-charge ammunition.
