Once all the enemies are gone, there's no risk or strategy involved in looting anymore. It's just a chore at that point. Especially if you have limited drivers, because then you're driving vehicles back to your reinforcement point to unsummon them, then re-deploying those drivers to pick up the next vehicle, etc.

It also makes sense from an immersion point of view. Auto-loot simulates the fact that every one of your guys should be participating in scavenging leftover weapons. It shouldn't just be the snipers' job to pick up working sniper rifles.
