Game kinda makes me realize how bad I am at games...

I'm going to apologize ahead of time if this sounds obvious or condescending, I'm writing this to hopefully be helpful to anyone no matter of skill level or experience.

90% of video game skill comes down to situational awareness. It might just be a case of needing to slow down and take better stock of your surroundings. Here's some things that might help with it:
  • Play in a completely dark, quiet room with no distractions. Playing a game in a well lit room is like a -4 perception modifier when playing games.
  • Adjust your field of view in the settings. Your ideal FOV is a factor of the width of your monitor, your eye's distance to your monitor, and your preference. Experiment with the setting to see what works best for you.
  • Try turning your sound volume up. You can hear most of the enemies in this game before you see them.
  • Another part of situational awareness is having a sort of three-dimensional conception of what the area around you looks like. Take note of things like where enemies might come from, where enemies or hidden goodies might be hiding around objects, where someone might shoot at you from a distance, where you yourself can run and hide to take cover from, etc. Always take cover from ranged enemies.
If you are having trouble aiming and hitting enemies:
  • Adjust your aim sensitivity. Turn the crosshair to always on in the settings, go into the game, pick two points in the middle distance, and try to move your crosshair between them as quickly and accurately as you can. If you are overshooting your target or struggling to get your crosshair onto it, turn your sensitivity down. If you feel like your crosshair is moving too slowly, turn it up. If in doubt, err on the side of it being a bit too fast, your brain will adjust with time. Then do the same while using a weapon's ironsights to adjust the ironsight sensitivity.
  • Fire slowly and calmly. Tap fire your gun under almost every circumstance. Make every shot count, not (just) because bullets might be low, but because the slower your fire the more you hit and the faster you kill enemies.
  • Try playing a low-stakes game that still requires aiming accuracy to practice on for a while. Portal comes to mind.
Some other advice:
  • Adjust all of your keybinds to what works for you. If you find yourself hitting the wrong key for something, set the key to what you expect to be. If you can't remember what button does something, deliberately setting it to something you choose will help you remember. I never play a game without first setting the keys to what I want.
  • If an enemy is shooting at you, and you don't know where they are, RUN or HIDE. Then wait for them to come to you or lose interest, or try to find another way around to get a different vantage point on them. If you stop to poke your head out to try to find them they will probably kill you before you can find them. They already know where you are, after all, and have a big advantage in that moment. I can't tell you how many times I have gotten overconfident and wish I had remembered this advice after I died.
