Like "der Alte" in "Das Boot" says:

"Don't stop until the commander's hat floats on the surface."

It would only work if you lie on the seabed because else ASDIC would recognize you are not sinking. And I don't think a small bit of debris and some oil would be a wise decision if you lie there. It marks your position pretty perfectly (all while you cannot move because you play dead). What should stop the enemy to just drop one or two more of his dozens (or even hundreds) of bombs there to see if more stuff floats up? In reality, depth charges had a few hundred meters of range for severe or fatal damage. The allies also knew that even a lot of oil and some debris can float up from a damaged boat that is far from being destroyed. Especially the outer oil tanks could get damaged rather easily. That's why they advised new commanders not to lie on the sea floor and wait it out. Over time, even if undamaged, it was pretty certain an oil stain would mark the position on which the boat was hiding. Given the right conditions, that could easily be seen and targeted pefectly.

Does all of this mean it wasn't tried? I guess not. Does it mean it would have been a wise tactic? I doubt that. And I don't think it would improve the authenticity to include it into the game.

On another note: Does anyone have some real advanced evasive maneuvers except for flank/turning hard on depth charge drops and head into an unexpected direction a bit quicker until the noise settles?

For me it works pretty well do drop a Bolt on 50 meters and then to creep away righter under the surface or at great depth as the enemy keeps circling over and dropping onto this juicy fake target.

Another funny (prior to 1942) tactic at night and in poor sight is to radio from close to a convoy to get the enemy huff duff detecting your transmission. Most convoy escorts might rush to your (last reported) position opening huge gaps in the convoy defense that way. You can also combine that with a Bolt to keep them occupied a bit more. If visibility is poor and they don't have radar.
