Exactly. It's important to recognize and respect ones limitations. Larian was ambitious beyond their means and it shows unfortunately.

The main issue is that freighters are more or less "randomly" assigned to new missions, they are not assigned based on need and distance to the source. Every mission given to a freighter needs to be heavily skewed to how close they are to the source where they should pick up cargo. They should start by looking for any potential source in the system they are in and then for close by systems.

I understand that it also is about how many CPU cycles you can afford to give to such a process, but right now a freighter can very well except a mission to pick up a resource on the far side if the galaxy after delivering goods to a station or colony despite that there is allot of potential sources much closer.

Freighters also should try to fill up their entire cargo space more often. Luxury are too often being carried in way to small quantities. This end up with large quantities of luxuries on some places and none or very few in others.
