Thankfully they did change it from 4 to 10 during early access. I recommend keeping your own zip files of the save directory so you can go way back if you want.

For those of you in the "cognitive bias" camp, if the artifacts were equally distributed then I should have found comparable numbers of daggers, idols, and casings. But as I said, I found a dozen idols and no daggers. Also, none of the station pilots sold any artifact the 20 or so times I tried. So my question was a sanity check, asking if they weren't balanced with a bias for the "home team" as I'd assumed.

As for stacking, up until now I've used the artifacts to gain favor with the races.

I'll try the trading stations (I always thought of them as bus stations, lol). Thanks for the responses, all.
