Bruh don't ask me a question without at least answering the one I asked that was left hanging.

Never did I say they SHOULD, but it's their game. IF they decided to and did so by way of sliders, in this SINGLEPLAYER game and the slider's maximum setting was the untouched vanilla difficulty: It's harmless. Unless you can give me a valid reason such a decision harms YOUR personal experience with the game. Maybe achievements could be disabled unless you set the game to its true difficulty, maybe rewards would be withheld (remember the original Resident Evil 3 for example? You couldn't get most of the clear game content unless you started over on the intended Hard Mode).

So the reason I'm against sliders is it stops being a souls-like game at that point. Souls-likes came into being because of people wanting a harder punishing game. Imagine fighting Melania from Elden Ring, and just going 'f it, she's too hard turn on easy mode' and blow past her. It, in the end, damages what the devs wanted players to experience. Though granted I do think they need to fine-tune some things in Wuchang like demon's blowing through 90% of attacks to punish you.

I like the difficulty and to an extent, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trolly decisions made in the design of Souls/Soulslike games, but if they decide to throw a bone to people by giving them an option to play a nerfed game that doesn't impede me or others that like it from playing the intended difficulty, more power to them, it's not killing the genre. Who am I to say they're not allowed to enjoy it... ffs the Souls community can't even agree on what's the REAL way most of the time. God forbid you like Souls games and have a predisposition towards mages/spellcasting/spellsword, then you're met with "well I hate to break it to you but if you use spells to beat the game, you didn't really beat it". In Khazan, ♥♥♥♥ you if you happen to like Spears, you chose the EZ mode weapon and therefore didn't really play the actual game. If the Souls community isn't gatekeeping from others, they find some way to gatekeep themselves unless you're using STR builds.

I agree with you here some. The games have built in ways of changing the difficulty, and I think that's how it should be. Spears in Khazan, magic in Souls, or Longsword/axe in Wuchang. Imo, if you beat the game with game mechanics, you beat the game period.

But let's say they did put in sliders with the drawbacks from your first quote. I think it would still hurt the game overall. Let's say you beat the game on easy, you think you're ready for normal now and start a new save only to find that all the leniency in less damage taken, more damage given, longer i-frames, boss move set changes that might come from the slider now has formed bad habits for this person who now starts getting frustrated again as things that did work on easy no longer work on the normal difficulty. Going back to Melania, imagine they take out Waterfowl Dance and now the person has to try to learn that.
Someone gave a similar answer in another thread and again, it's not the game's fault if you have no self-control (that's not a knock on you, that's just being real). It's the same as when Persona 5 Royal was released and had the DLC Personas included. People ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ they made the game too easy when they could just... not use them. Of course someone made a mod that disables them but if you had the discipline to install the mod that gets rid of them... you had the discipline to just not use them in the first place, same applies in my hypo. I also brought up even in my hypothetical on sliders, someone would most definitely make a mod that just removes the slider and makes the intended difficulty the only difficulty.
Your example for how the difficulty would be reduced I don't think is feasible by most devs (without breaking something), we assume the most generic of modifiers that reduce the overall difficulty. Things like increased initial stats, leveling up costs less points, you get more skill points per level up, you don't lose souls on death, your weapons scale better, and/or combinations depending on how you tune the slider. In this single player game where the intended difficulty is still preserved, it really doesn't affect the experience individually.
I appreciate you consider any way within the framework of the game as a valid way of beating it, unfortunately the Souls community by and large would not agree lmao. Look at Elden Ring. Even post nerfs, if you use summon spirits your experience is invalidated because wannabe FighterPL said so, lol.
