I really wanted to like this game, I really did.

When I first saw this game on YouTube, I was interested in the book designing aspect of the game. I love stuff like character customisation and room decor games, so I immediately went to steam to install the play test. Once I played it a few times and finished the feedback form, I felt so uninterested that I decided to uninstall it.

For the games mechanics, the design aspect feels kinda under baked, which makes sense since this is a play test, but the fact that decor items would just randomly disappear (which I assume is because I cannot place the item there) without any explanation confused me. Why not make it clear where I can and cannot place stuff, such as by colouring it red when it cannot be placed and colouring it green when it can. A grid would also be useful to align elements, and it could be toggled on and of for those who don't want it. The different stickers could also be tagged or separated into different categories/ themes so that it's easier to figure out what kind of stuff the customer wants. There could also be a text box while we're designing that has details on what the character wants, or maybe bold that relevant text when we're talking to them.

But while the game play feels cool and just could be refined a bit, the characters actually feel pretty ok and I can't wait to see how they'll be expanded upon in the full game. Except for one: Nate. The swearing feels almost comically out of place, like he's a tween who just discovered what "♥♥♥♥" and "♥♥♥♥" means. I get that it's because he's supposed to be an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but you already get that pretty quickly from his initial behaviour, plus there's much better ways to go about it than just cursing. It also doesn't fit the visuals/ aesthetics of the game, which are pretty cool BTW. The game visually feels like a quaint, seemingly magical world (and is definitely not our own), and while the violent aspects fit in a bit better, the swearing feels like if a fantasy knight used a laptop. IMO this kind of anachronism works well if either the tone is comedic and it's the whole point, or if the whole world is like this. This game falls into neither of these categories, so it fails pretty badly.

It's not like this game lacks potential. The idea of being a bookbinder and interacting with people and learning about them is pretty interesting, and the visuals look great, but as it stands I don't think I'd buy this game if it releases just like this, nor would I recommend it to others.
