I'm not one to let an ending ruin things for me but this was the closest it ever came. Why did they make Ebina Ichiban's half brother if they never interact after that reveal? All it does is make Arakawa either a liar or an idiot that doesn't understand how babies are made. He tells Ichiban he did everything he could to sabotage that relationship so he could be with Akane. I guess for him that means raw dogging her and not pulling out. It seemed like Ichiban should have been the one to fight Ebina and Kiryu who already knows the horrors of nuclear waste should have been the one to free the ex-yakuza from the disposal site possibly using the fact he is already a dead walking to do so.

Ichiban helping Eiji isn't something I imagine anyone wanted or agreed with but its fine because that does seem in Ichiban's character and I could see him doing it as a do over after what happened with Masato.

The biggest issue is why didn't they have Haruka and Kiryu in a scene together. I'm sure like me most people wanted nothing more the entire game then to see that moment. The best part of Gaiden is seeing Kiryu breakdown when he realizes how much his kids grew without him. Imagine how great actually getting to see him reunite with Haruka for the first time in 7 years would have been. Its all they had to do... it would been the perfect closure for his character or just an arc if they wanted to keep going with him. The fact they subverted that reunion twice is the most baffling and frustrating thing ever. Its the most obvious thing ever. Its not even like they are doing something like Kiryu ran out before she arrived and is going back into hiding. He is down the hall meaning they are going to meet at some point, but we just don't get to see it I guess. What we get instead is Kiryu "reclaiming" his name which doesn't hold any meaning because every character called him Kiryu the entire game. It might have had some impact if no one used his name and Ichiban and company never learned it off screen between 7 and 8 and called him Joryu or Suzuki instead. You even could have had a good scene with Ichiban learning he is THE Dragon of Dojima he would have heard about in his Tojo days. I just really can't wrap my head around this decision, why would they do this? It's like they blew Kiryu's emotional scene on him and Ebina so they couldn't have him have one with Haruka.

Daigo and the boys also got done dirty. They had an ending in 7 and this game took that away and didn't give them a replacement, the last we see of them is standing on the roof. I haven't played Pirate yet so maybe I get an answer but did they reform the company? Are they still fishermen living a miserable existence? Who knows? Why wasn't Daigo on the helicopter with Kiryu? 6's ending had them embracing a father and son relationship and was one of the moments that got to me in that game and I wished we got more of that dynamic between the two. I will say I'd loved how hard Daigo took the news of Kiryu's cancer and how his first thought was to get him help and how when Kiryu finally falls to it Daigo is the first to react and hold him. I think that was a great way to show their relationship but I wish we got more, but I always want more Daigo scenes.
