What's funny is this game has 2 explicit options to prevent this:
1) switch to fullscreen
2) lock mouse to game area

and neither of them works.

Fullscreen from what I can tell is not exclusive fullscreen and instead borderless window. Which is my preference anyway, but this bug is still annoying. Even more annoying though is the lack of WASD camera control.

As a fan of the genre with quite a few notched on my belt I'll say - yes.
I also like recently Desert Stalker, and from before - Dpraved Awakening is great, Summer with Mia, my cute all time favorite - Man of the House (very simple visually, but extra cute, funny, and with fine stories, though your choices don't bear as much weight and there's a bit of grind).

I don't know and am just guessing, but maybe you could try lowering the Death on Downed in your story teller settings before they reach extreme.

If you install all the DLCs at once, then yes it can get up to 400+GB. But the base game is only around 120, and you can pick and choose which DLCs you have installed when you want to play their specific maps. All the creatures and equipment from DLCs is contained in the base game, so you won't have to worry about losing anything if you uninstall a DLC you aren't planning to play soon.
