The Whole 128 Script Limit Thing...
3 minutter siden
Nitemares
Anything you or a settler can interact with is a scripted item... So yes, that includes chairs, beds, lights, doors, food, water, workbenches, and settlers.

Basically if it has a function attached to it = even happiness- its a scripted item.

The 128 limit is the limit the game can process - AT 30 FPS - and not produce lag, or script stack dumps.

Any more items then that, or running a higher frame rate while close to that 128 limit and you will start to see script lag being introduced to your settlement.

What is script lag? How do I tell if I have it?

Settlers on top of a roof when you get to a settlement? Script lag.
Settlers not working and milling about? Script lag.
Resources numbers not matching what you expect? Script lag - or ugrids issue.
Settlers don't respond right away when you assign them? Script lag.
Lights not working even though you have power? Script lag. -ugrids issue

And the list goes on..

"Wait you listed 30 frames above, why does frame rate matter???"

The game uses the time BETWEEN frames to process scripts. At 30 frames that about 3 milliseconds for the game to process hundreds to thousands of scripts. But if you're running at 60 frames, well now the engine as 1.5 milliseconds to process those scripts....

And since there is no "Time out" function in the Papyrus engine, all you do is push back the unprocessed scripts to the next interval.. and then the next interval, and then the next interval.. and so, and so on... Until you overload the script engine and you get a stack dump.
Now the game can and will recover from a few stack dumps and you would never know they happened.... but you get successive stack dumps in a row... and you are off to CTD land!

"But I have a Super, Duper, Uber computer with 20 terabytes of ram and a RTX 999,999 Video card!!! Can't I just brute force it??"

No.

For one, your computer doesn't matter much once you get over a certain point, because the SOFTWARE has no idea what to do with all those resources, its expecting Computer Resources of a Decade ago, and having all that extra power is like dropping a 8v engine into a horse drawn carriage... its there, but the Carriage is expect a horse to pull it.
Same with the game, Its expecting an Xbox/PS3/Computer from 2015 and is programmed for a Xbox/PS3/Computer 2015... So those extra cores, massive clock speed, and fancy graphics cards are like "spinners" on hubcaps... they look nice but do nothing for the performance of the game.

"But there must be Something I do to fix this script issue!!!"

There is.... Cut down on the number of scripts that are running. Which means limit what you build, limit the number and type of mods you run... Limit your frame rate to 30 frames (IF you can handle it.. not many people these days can... because "MuH fRaMeS!!!" attitude. (and admittedly even I hate 30 frames..)

If your mod requires f4se to run... its a scripted mod. If it adds to the world space, its a scripted mod. If it adds items that uses a workbench its a scripted mod...
So basically... weapon, clothing, armour, world space mods are all scripted mods.. and that's just the most common ones...
