It's purely a definition argument, so there's not really a lot of angles to approach it with.

I'll at least say I think pay to win ought to be considered the definition for any game which lets you pay to get ahead. It shouldn't matter if the end result you're paying for is the same as what you could grind for.
The issues people have with 'pay to win' generally aren't drawn by that line, so I don't think the definition should be either.

Likewise, I don't think a game being pay to win is the end of the world. It's just something to note and be honest about, since sometimes it's a deal breaker.
