Its a bit overwhelming throwing it all at you so fast, but there's really not that much. Just practice a little bit, go at your own pace. You'll get it!

A | Jump
B | Throw
X | Light Attack
Y | Heavy Attack

RB | Roll
LB + A/B/X/Y | Ability
LT + RT + A/B/X/Y | Super Ability
LB + RB | Execute
RT | Hook

That said, I hear you. The game has made no real attempt to be a continuation of the originals. Personally, I think they should have re-created the *exact* character controller from Shinobi 3, and then expand on it throughout the game unlocking new abilities like roll, and execute, ninpo etc.

I'm disappointed you can't run then slice, timing those perfectly was very satisfying. And no power shuriken's and auto blocking when powered up? Also the mass shuriken throw shouldn't be an ability, that should just happen automatically when you throw while double jumping like it always did.

I completely agreed at first with OP and this quote. But after completing the demo 100% and fully getting used to the controls, I changed my mind.

Now I know what to hit and when. Figuring out that some enemies die in a different way than others was key. I stopped just mashing buttons like a beat-em-up and used specific attacks to specific enemies for the fastest and most effective kill in each situation.

But another thing that I missed was the walking... I get it that Joe is running due to the emergency of the situation, but at least I wanted to have the option to walk like I did in Shadow Dancer for the Master System.

The good news were that you are able to walk just by holding the diagonal up and forward.

I found that accidentally (I was trying to use ninjutsu with up+attack like in Shadow Dancer) and I think it's a weird choice. It could have been a button press instead (for example LT+forward). Have you ever seen that choice in any other platform game?
If you're using the analog stick you can lore walk by only slightly tilting it.
Naturally the D-Pad defaults to sprinting due to the game's pace.
