Not only Lumen, but also Nanite, open world streaming, UI elements, and other aspects were horribly slow and unstable with that engine version. Basically the entire thing was still in its experimental stage where it was more about presenting and testing new features rather than having them perform well.

Yeah i was watching a video explaining in details why so many ue 5 games perform so bad, and it’s mostly because of the heavy overuse of Nanite without any optimization
And what epic claims about nanite not being expensive, doesn’t work on practice
well, it works on practice, but not as good as it shoul. nanites are really great, but it is just a bit ahead of its time. the newer gpus work better with nanites. nanites by the way, at least partially, are not entirely new or unique. the rendering part is called visibility buffer, and it was out before nanite release. it is good at rendering triagles as small as 1 pixel, while traditional rasterization expects that 2x2 pixel quads are belonging to one triangle, and if there is a smaller triangle, or an edge, gpu renders 1 pixel with the same overhead as if there were 2x2 pixels. and fortunately or not, we are getting there. all AA and AAA games of the future will have microgeomertical details and will need techniques similar to nanites (seamless lod system and visibility buffer microgeometry rendering). gpus of the future also will be optimized for nanite-like rendering. i also don't like this transitional age we are in.
