Why do people like this over Diablo IV?
This post is so unfair and badly researched.
So stick with me here as I'll make efforts to explain.

In case you were honest here is some information.

The dual-class genre

Titan Quest belongs to the "dual-class system" game family that started with Titan Quest 1 and continued with Grim Dawn. This genre actually builds on Diablo 2 which had a system about "building your character and committing yourself to this build".

So in these games, just like in D2, you pick a class and build into it progressively.

But these games go a lot further here by proposing you a number of very advanced hybrid classes to play and master.

In addition, contrary to "Prestige class" games (POE is a prestige class one), where you pick an advanced version of your class, hybrid-class games are more open since the start and allow a lot more ways to play this hybrid. Prestige class on the other end have a way to define the Prestige class as a specific advanced system and specialization from the starting class, which is very differnt from the large "horizontal options" of a hybrid system.

You made a mistake in original post

If you think that TQ2 has no class, then you may have played only 6 minutes into it, I am afraid, because you pick your first "mastery" very soon in prologue and then your second one about 15 minutes later.

So please give it respect and do that, you'll see that you were mistaken.

Classes are actually a huge element in the bybrid class system as you can build your "hybrid" in several ways, using one class (mastery) as main and the other as support, or both equally, and also express several damage types and buff/debuff specialty from that combination.

In closure,

TQ2 seems to emulate elements from Last Epoch (mutators on skills, though less extreme than LE), Grim Dawn (some elements of act 1), and of course modernizes the Titan Quest formula. It also seems to want players to be very free to respec though, which is okay i guess in EA and act 1 but will cost too much later to switch skill loadout.

While D3 and D4 also have classes, they have different designers than D2, instead abandoned this path and focused on a "loadout system" where you can permute your current set for another. Same comes to loot where legendary powers can be switched.

D3 became a not-comparable game because of its cartoon-like characters and overpowered season system, and was even worse at launch with an auction house (♥♥♥!), and D4 still did not get it because of its uncharacterized loot, poor class design, MMO-features and endgame.

D2 on the other hand had the wildest loot and a sense of "commitment" to your build, which also carried to multiplayer.
