How much time was wasted on the Co-Op?

I think Steam is ok for EA titles, and MOST people understand EA means NOT FINISHED. But when you have a game that was getting lots of development and even weekly streams with the devs, you can't be surprised when people start complaining about no movement on the game. We haven't heard anything in months except co-op is coming. As far as I remember there wasn't many people asking for co-op maybe 10% or less. Most wanted more content to the game, specifically asking about chemistry. For this reason, I label the game as dying.

Or ..... maybe.... it just takes a long time to completely overhaul the entire underlying structure of the game to make everything playable by multiple players at the same time is a major project that is extremely time consuming. It's like when you are transferring a folder with pictures and videos from one device to another - it goes deceptively very fast when pictures and tiny videos are transferring, but then it hits the 1 hour video you made, and the next percentage point seems to take forever. It's just the way the world is. Some things are larger and more complicated, and thus take a much larger amount of time to do.

Or even if, say they had to downsize the dev staff a bit due to lack of early development sales, wouldn't that be the exact reason why adding a fully functional multi-player mode is so critical? It's adding new selling features that may bring in new paying customer players that could save the game, or at least spark it's production. If new players buy the game especially for the social experience, we all win in the long run.
