I think you’re overlooking an important point: even with AI, adding a new language to a game is not an instant, zero-cost task. It still requires hours, and sometimes days or weeks, of development time and budget.

Many players, and even some novice developers, tend to think things can be done with a snap of the fingers, in a second. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. This is well known. Because the magic of code requires time and effort, a lot of time and a lot of effort.

AI can help produce a first draft, but translations still need to be reviewed and edited by humans to avoid errors, awkward phrasing, or cultural misunderstandings. In games, this is especially critical for tone, lore consistency, and player immersion.

There’s also the integration work: subtitles must be implemented into the game engine, timed correctly, tested in every scene, and adjusted if text length affects UI layouts or overlaps with other elements. That still requires developers and testers, for subtitles as well as voices.

Thus yes, AI can speed up the process, but it doesn’t replace all the time and therefore the budget needed for proper localization. For small or mid-sized studios, that’s still a significant workload compared to the potential benefit, especially if the target language’s market is relatively small, as the studio has explained in the past (e.g., for Italian).

Because English is simply the dominant language for our generation, it’s just a fact. The realistic approach is to hope that future profits will allow the studio to add more languages, prioritizing those most requested, such as Italian for example, from what I’ve read here. Constructive feedback will always be more useful than criticism.
