Because I'm lazy I'll name just two:
- Less overall encounters (though still too many)
- No pre-buffing (RT)

And if you're looking between Kingmaker and WotR, difference is massive in tutorials, mechanics explanation, early quests and so on.
Example: First non-tutorial quest in Kingmaker will send you to cave with swarms and stat reducing spiders. At level 2. Tutorials also basically don't exist, so everything has to be learned by googling it.
For all its shortcomings, tutorials in WotR do explain mechanics (at least basic ones).

Plenty others, but point is they're definitely learning and improving.

Instead you have like 10 actions / hero in RT. Not certain that is an improvement.

But yeah. Wrath and RT are in general better balanced. While they did fix some things, KM can still be quite sadistic. And less encounters is a good thing. Trash fights have their place(CR -1 etc), but it is not to get spammed.

Yes, you are sort of guaranteed to get SR, but if you are hunting for SSR, then every 100 tries, that's 10 tries that you don't get a chance for SSR, because they are locked for SR. So for 200 tries, you are actually getting 180. And you will still pull out some SR in the process.
Not that it's a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a whopping two times 1500 for a chance for SSR.
