Who says things can't change? If things didn't change, we would still be riding horses, powering our trains with steam, using carbon-filament bulbs instead of LEDs, and carrying Nokia 2310s in our pockets instead of an iPhone 15 Pro Max or a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I've already said what happens when a company doesn't change: just look at Ubisoft.

Games have also changed (like God of War, The Legend of Zelda, X-COM, Final Fantasy, even Tomb Raider); what used to be standard has become obsolete, and even old, grumpy men like me have adapted. Change isn't always bad.

I think the future is in streaming (no visible loading screens, not even cutscenes that hide loading, like takeoff and landing in SF) and not in 20+-year-old cell-loading technology.

Whatever. It's up to Bethesda if they want to cater to the 'old' Bethesda formula or not. In the end, the market decides—not them, and certainly not the few people on this forum. If they don't adapt, they will follow Ubisoft's path, or worse.
It's bethesda. They have their formula, and it works for them. Why would they want to change? They update the engine, to do the new tricks they want, and that is more than adequate to the task.

Change, just for the sake of change, isn't necessarily a 'good thing'.

Because they don't want to end up like Ubisoft? I'm not sure why I have to say that out loud; I thought it was obvious enough.

Don't forget, the Ubisoft "homeboys" kept saying "everything is perfect," and Ubisoft kept listening to them. And now, they've gone... puuuuuuuuuuf. It's a real-world cautionary tale, nothing more, nothing less.

And yup, it's quite possible the market will reject streaming and prefer cell-loading. Who knows? As I said, it's not our decision. We just have to live with what happens, and Bethesda has to live with the consequences, be they good or bad.
