Kindness without asking isn't inherently bad. Intentions behind the act is all that matters.

If the act was done without expecting anything, and I mean anything, not even a “Thank You”. Then that's true kindness. The act in itself is the source of joy for the person. They feel/understand/acknowledge another's pain and suffering; wanting to contribute a little to alleviate their burden. The very act is bliss.
Like how someone may feel happy helping a disabled person on a wheelchair, or someone putting food next to a sleepy homeless person, or a spouse doing the housework when their partner is sick, or someone volunteering to take care of stray animals at an animal shelter, etc. All of these are for the sake of the other, with no "I" or ego in the equation.

But if someone is being all nice, while secretly expecting stuff in return, then that's a red flag.
Even if what they expect is non-material stuff, like, respect, admiration, attention, companionship, sex, etc.

I might be guilty of a few things here. But I'm learning, and trying to correct my ways.
