Try sleeping/waiting for a few hours in dogtown, some missions are triggered after a certain amount of time passes. The wheel icon can show up randomly while you're exploring so just pay attention to the minimap and drive around dogtown.

I am glad I saw this post, I almost downloaded this game. Its 2025, improper ultra wide is kinda dumb.

It genuinely hurt my eyes... It's rough to look at, much like a light mode.

When I did them I dug down in the middle of the circle until I hit rock, then dug in a direction until I saw the edge of the circle, then dug in a different direction inside the circle until I saw the edge of the circle in that direction. Repeat as necessary. The circle gets smaller as you dig, so you will always end up at the chest. While digging, I made some topsoil blocks in my pockets and put them in my hotbar. After opening the chest, I returned to the place I'd dug down from and nerdpoled up using the topsoil blocks. Fills the hole neatly without leaving building blocks lying around.

The only treasure chest job I do now is the one you're forced to do at the beginning if you want to do any trader jobs. And that one's much smaller, so much less bothersome.
