Ashlands multiplayer tips

If you see any vineberries, harvest them. A percentage of the ones you harvest will drop seeds. Take those back to your home base and plant them along a vertical surface (they will grow in the Meadows and most biomes). Vineberries are a major ingredient in Ashlands food and meads, and in every run I have done to the Ashlands getting Vineberry production going has been a major bottleneck. Without a good amount of vineberries to work with, more than half of Ashlands foods and meads are out of reach. So when you do get seeds, make it a priority to get them planted back at your base ASAP.

An upgraded Mistwalker is really good. Frostner is decent too, though the damage is much lower.

Magic is good too, but it can be demanding. Total glass cannon. One can do lots of damage fast, but if one's magic shield goes down unexpectedly the fun can end really fast.

Fire Resistance barley wine is a must. Drink it before you step into the Ashlands and have extra on hand.

The Bog Witch sells ingredients that will allow you to make two potions that will help with mobility - the Tonic of Ratatosk (speed boost) and the Lightfoot mead (helps in jumping). Both of these can help in avoiding enemies to some extent, allowing one to sometimes outmanuever or outspeed them.

Putrid Holes - the "Troll Caves" of the Ashlands - make for handy portal base locations. They are largely indestructible and the entranceway usually provides enough cover to keep a workbench from burning up due to the ashfalls. Use a hoe with stones to raise the earth to block off the entrance so enemies cannot get in easily. Make it high enough that you have to jump up to get in and it will provide you with a fairly safe spot to fall back to if mobs chase you. Just be on the lookout for lava blobs, as they will easily destroy the raised earth wall when they explode. If you see one coming your way, jump down and kite them away, then get near them so they self-destruct in a spot away from the Putrid Hole.
I usually try to keep an eye out for Putrid Holes and try to move from one to another and set up a portal in each. After a while you will be able to identify them by the bones scattered around the perimeter and the large rounded rock shape.
Also, they are worth going inside, as they have some really good loot. Just be aware that the "inhabitant" may not be happy about you looting his home. ;)
