Idea for developers, “Prestige” mechanic / Идея разработчикам, механика "Престижа"

Първоначално публикувано от Steel Democracy Rangers:
It's a neat idea in theory but what could be done to handle people who play at 2000 elo just stacking up prestige? People who are below 2000 won't be able to prestige because the higher level players won't let them.

Also, once someone hits prestige, they'll jump from 2000 back to 0 and then steamroll all of the <1500elo players on their way up again.

Perhaps a season model like Rocket League would be a direction to go in? Or perhaps an elo reset when a new major update drops? I am just science fiction prototyping here.

Ultimately your idea is neat in terms of people enjoying progression and progression retaining engagement but needs some adjusting.
Still on the game "Escape from Tarkov" I realized for myself, the regular gathering of progress is very annoying, do not want to every time from the beginning to achieve previously achieved.
After 2-3 years you realize that you can just not play, in 6 months your progress will be reset again.

Prestige essentially allows you to “Measure your achievements”.
By giving your ELO, the player gets a virtual Medal, the equivalent of effort expended.
Many people crave unique rewards and the higher the prestige, the fewer people who achieve it, the more unique the reward will be.

Going through ELO from 0 to 2200 will force you to play and communicate with many people, quite possibly by playing a few games with other players you will help them become better, learn to play better. Or you may learn something new for yourself.

Updates to User Review Scores Based on Language
Току-що
Lumen
Well, what can I say? I would say the update is ambiguous.
I don't think this is a very sensible decision, especially if the setting is enabled by default.

Okay, let's see.
What if a person was born in Country 1, then moved to Country 2, and uses the language of Country 3 for their reviews? – How should this be understood? How can this even be “classified”? It's nonsense. If such people write reviews, they have no connection to the country where the language is used (because they live in another country – he just borrowed their language for his review).

There are people on earth who were born in one country, and at some point in their lives, the whole family moves to another. This means that the cultural direction is not entirely “legitimate” in the sense that a person is no longer subject to the cultural influence of their homeland – now they are part of a new culture, but they also remember fragments of their previous culture. And so, he may be located in a specific part of the world, but write his reviews in a completely different language, such as English: at some point, a person arrives from the Asian continent directly to Europe and writes his reviews in English.
For example, me: I sometimes write reviews in Russian, but I have never lived in Russia. I also sometimes write reviews in Spanish, plus in English as well. But I have never lived in Britain or the US... Here's a scenario: I can write a positive review in Russian (because I didn't experience any problems with the game), but on the other hand, a resident of Russia had a problem launching the game due to the war in Europe.
After this scenario, I ask the question: how effective and reliable is your new filter (which is enabled by default) if it is impossible to determine this fine line? Is it fair that my review falls into this category if I have no connection to Russia and its political regime has no influence on me (because I am located in Europe)? I simply use a certain language as a tool for conveying information or interacting. That's it.

Classification or filtering by language is silly and unfair, I would say. Because we have:
1. Culture,
2. User/consumer preference (in which language to write their impressions of the game) – so far, Steam allows you to choose the language in which reviews will be written, regardless of the user's location,
3. Territorial characteristics, etc.

A brief digression, but on topic
Why does Steam still not support reviews in “multiple languages”?
Why is it not possible to write a single review in different languages? Because there are many people in the world who know more than one language. For example, I know four languages. I use two or three of them very often. So why can't I write a review in those languages?
In my opinion, this feature would encourage people to develop themselves, and they would strive to write in different languages, increasing their overall level of intelligence (yes, I know, this is not “Duolingo”, but still, games are part of human self-development). And yes, it could be argued that some people would abuse this option (as people have always done throughout history), but it would be clear who is interested in self-development and who is just pretending. This will also lead to new and interesting encounters between a wide variety of people interested in self-development.
A “Change Language” button within the review would be damn interesting, in my opinion.
You have “Awards,” right? Well, use them wisely, Steam! Let's grow together!
[...]

Steam, you disappoint very often :(
If reviews disappear and cease to fulfill their main function properly, I will stop using Steam – I will gradually withdraw as a consumer.
