The ability to catch the fishes alive is primarily intended for them to be used as bait underwater.

As for the aquarium or the alien containment, they could've simply repurposed the "transfuser". Instead of crawling into the containment unit via a hatch, just have the "transfuser" store the fishes, or just their samples, and then drop them off at the containment unit which then breeds them.

It started very promising first, but as progressing it just felt like a poor version of HL2... and so buggy too... sorry!

I would go to the casino and gamble it all.

If people are still looking for an answer for this, I think I figured it out. You need to select the "Run DayZ Client" option (without the launcher) when you run the game, and not the "Play DayZ" option. I got my achievements on a community server.

I got numerous achievements without doing such thing, but I killed my first person with a melee and supposedly lit up a fire with all the methods in the game, but I didn't get any new achievement or progress in the killing people one. I'll try what you say next time, but if it worked for me to get achievements in the past it probably can now as well.
