No steam guard mobile authenticator = 3 day hold for trade???
Why would Valve do this? I have had my Steam Guard active since the day they released it, I have my email conformation set up for all trades, and I have an active phone linked to my Steam account and I am still going to get put on a 3 day trade hold just because I can not install the stupid app on my phone?!?

This is stupid! Not everybody has an iOS/Androide phone to use this system. At least give us another option to use if we do not have the ability to use the app, or give us a way to opt out of the system for trades.

I'm just so sick of Steam, its such a hassle to do anything. I really wish I could just rip Steam out and play all games via the executable and just leave everything else. Don't own a smartphone and I don't feel like shelling out 500 bucks when I could just get a brand new console instead, or food for two months.

I hardly buy games on steam anymore, one game last winter sale and I loathe when I have to activate boxed games on Steam, making them useless if I ever wanted to leave the system.

Maybe I should just stop buying games here and buy the rest on GOG or something. I dunno, Steam just adds stuff that I cant opt out of or customize and the store page just feels bloated and just recommends stuff and I cant turn recommendations off and... Ugh.

Plus, my only instance of contacting support, when buying a boxed game from a huge retailer in Sweden, where I live, the code was in use. My brother bought the same game at the same time, same thing. Baffled I contacted steam support and they accused me of buying an pre-owned copy (it was brand new, shrink wrapped and all) and the support guys on my brothers end just fixed it no problem! I had to beg on my knees and really proclaim it loudly that it was a genuine purchase, receipt and all, links to the retailer and even showing them that they dont even carry used games. The answer I got was "We resetted it for you this time, but know in the future that we wont reset any used games for you in the future".

So yeah, I'm probably blacklisted by support with a comment noting how I bought a used copy, they refused to listen.

And this is like, the straw that broke the camels back for me. Everytime I try to justify that Steam isn't so bad, it turns to worse. And I really hate it, as much as I use it and as much as boxed games force me to use it.

A bit off topic yeah but, I do hope they remove this stuff, it just keeps adding up in a pile of things thats starting to spell out "steam sucks" for me.

I bought most of my games on Steam cause I liked the service.. which they keep ... well taking away from me.. unless I do as they say .. and bow down to the "smart phone" gods.. and what have you.

What is really bad about this entire situation.. I have likened games on here to "hostages"

Steam does as they like.. cause they know you either take it.. or *not* use the system all your games are tied to.

Sad thing about NOT buying games on steam.. if steam were to "go under" cause of people not buying.. well again... hostage games go with em. Cause we all know.. we do not own it.. we rent it from steams (lately TERRIBLE) service.

You should not have to wait for any market listings. It's April 9th and I just put something up that is to be held until April 24. I got the maximum 15 days. No idea if the price will go up or down between now and then.

Has anybody yet mentioned that now awesome trading sites like scrap.tf are almost all broken if you don't have Mobile Authenticator? :cgpout:

Steam Trade Matcher[www.steamtradematcher.com] found a way to warn people of the trade-hold if they didn't have the authenticator, unfortunately that just deters people from trading with those people... 3 days I didn't really have much of a problem with, but now even I am attempting to avoid sending trades to people who have a (15-day) trade-hold to anybody outside of my friend list. The sad thing about this is the discrimination against those without cell phones from Steam is being duplicated at an unbelievable rate by those who are using the authenticator against those who aren't (or don't have the ability to due to lack of hardware)... Honestly...was a raise in discrimination against a group of individuals what Steam was shooting for?!? I don't think Steam realizes it yet, but this is going to deter people from purchasing from Steam in the future... :madelf::steamfacepalm::1questberserk:

Maybe if we protest enough Valve will fix it.

Maybe if we protest enough Valve will fix it.
As much time as they have put into boosting this feature (more like hindrance) to an intolerable level that is going to drive off customers, I seriously doubt it... The only thing that I believe will catch their attention on it will be when they notice a drop in sales. A small group of people boycotting Steam won't be enough to get them to change their minds & I've done it in the past myself due to a purchase of abandonware (Fray) that Steam refused to refund (which ended after a year when I was gifted a game where the full price of it was about what I got ripped off for, even if the game was on sale at the time), but I think if people can't use the full features of Steam due to passed-down discrimination started by Steam through the trade hold, then they're going to start considering whether the trade/market-hold is worth the loss of customers & perhaps at least lower the hold somewhat...

Yeah, good job Valve, you broke Steam and to an extent you broke PC gaming.
EDIT: Well, maybe that's a bit of an exadderation. They made PC gaming worse.

Ok... So first time attempting to trade from my secondary account with the authenticator added to it, looks like the authenticator doesn't work properly with more than one account on the same phone... Looks like you can authorize trades for the first account you added on that phone, but you won't ever be able to access the trade authorizations for any other accounts on the authenticator regardless of whether you log out of your first account, into another or restart your entire phone. So at this point it looks like I have no choice but to remove the authenticator from my secondary account, since it doesn't properly work with multiple accounts (the authenticator login/purchase code still works if you switch it from the primary, but not trade confirmations, which I was only adding to get around the trade hold, which is irrelevant if you can't get trade confirmations to any account other than the first one added to the phone). So I'm going to hope Steam will at least look into getting this part fixed, since the bug in their app has forced me to remove it from my secondary account; the sad thing here is once I remove it, I'll have a 7-day trading ban before I can authorize that trade I just attempted to send... :youareahammer::spazhorror::steamfacepalm:

Let's take this a step further... So I remove the authenticator to my secondary account, then cancel the trade offer since it was still pending & I couldn't do anything about it since the authenticator doesn't push trade offers to any account other than the first you add to the phone; the items I was attempting to trade or now GONE!!! Okay, I attempted to work around this authenticator BS by using alternatives so I could use it seeing as I don't have a phone & this isn't the first time I've lost cards because I was using it. Because of the bugs in the authenticator, I've lost not only one Christmas card last Christmas because of an exploit (which effectively prevented me from completeing another level on that badge), but 3 Endorlight cards (Birdy, Slim x2) to boot. Honestly, I don't think I will be adding the authenticator back to my secondary account at this point unless I get those cards back & this might have been the nail in the coffin where I won't be purchasing any new games from Steam either...

Want another laugh? The authenticator still appears to be doing authentication codes for my secondary account; I would assume because I didn't remove it through the authenticator itself. I didn't remove it through the authenticator from the secondary account because I was worried it was going to put a 7-day trade ban on my primary account also & after what it did to the cards on my secondary account, I'm not even going to attempt it until the pending trades I currently have going are done with.

The majority of steam probably doesn't even have a phone activated. What % of accounts even does, including alts and inactives.
Any information they do reveal is 100% based on people who do have it, because they're forced to use it. They aren't using this 'miraculous' security measure by choice, it's like saying 100% of people breathe air because they have to, not because they choose to.

Looks like I got those cards back eventually, but no idea when since I wasn't exactly at my computer for most of the day. In any case, good to see those cards weren't lost on top of the authenticator. I don't intend on putting the authenticator back on my secondary account until a Steam rep can verify that trade authorizations can be received for multiple accounts on the same installation of the app (not just the first account to be added to a phone as it is now) & let's me know that's the case (I'm subscribed to this thread, so a response should be all that's needed).

EDIT: Interestingly enough, no 7-day trade ban like I was expected, given when I added the authenticator, there was a 7-day trade ban (and I understand this was the case when people first turned on Steam Guard via email notifications after that change went into effect). Either that stipulation doesn't count when you downgrade security of your account or it may have been removed...

I really don't get it... You Don't Have the App and you got 3day hold?? , Well I have the App and i got 1 week hold , sometimes 2 weeks , And that is TOO MUCH...
I know it's for inventory purposes and + to avoid the super profit in market , but Hey! 1-2 weeks is too much !!! 3-5 days is fine!!

If can somebody just explain it to me please.. TIA , but why would i wait 2 weeks just for some cards / cheap / trashy trades??

As someone who don't have a phone, I feel that, that I'm discriminated versus people who really have a phone. Is like that they have put me on a "black list" with less features just for not having a phone. And that's feeling really bad.
