They will do a full release with an iso you can happily boot and run, just not yet.
That hasn't stopped some people from making it work anyway though.

That is an unofficial version of SteamOS 3.0 called HoloISO. It's mostly there, but it's mainly a curiosity and not really intended to seriously be used as your main OS right now.
You can try HoloISO, you can wait for the official full release of SteamOS 3.0, or you can download any other wonderfully feature complete version of Linux. Then just install Steam and set it to boot directly into the new Big Picture mode, which is based on the Steam Deck interface.
Though at that point why not just make a Windows system that boots into BPM. You're not really gaining much by going to Linux unless you really want to do that and deal with all the various head aches around games not working
SteamOS 3 (codename holo) is based on arch (and not officially released yet)
@OP: if you still wanna use the PC for productivity or other tasks than gaming revolving around Steam, i would recommend to install a more established Linux distro. while it is not impossible to do that with SteamOS, certain things are way less complicated to get running properly.
