Question about hosting a content server
I am thinking about possibly hosting one once I have sufficient money, however, would a linux server work, or does it have to be a windows server?

You wont be able to host a content server for steam game downloads.

Are you a company with more bandwidth than an ISP?

that is not on your power level, bro.

The storage costs alone would ruin your grand-grand-grand kids.

lol, no its not an option.

You cant be a content host if you are renting an internet connection. Youll need more bandwidth than an entire town.
I have 8tbs lying around. Would get an extra 4tb.

Not even close. Do you know what content server providers are? If you pay for a monthly internet bill you are not it.

Do you own google fiber? If not then the answer is no.

"How does my company become a Steam content provider?"
You house renting a connection wont count. No matter how fast you think your connection is.

I do own fiber. lol. Also content servers host every game for when people download them. 12tb should easily be enough.

You dont own google fiber, you rent off of them. You dont own the company.

Here's the big thing that you'd have to overcome...

Use of Google Fiber and related services (Services) is subject to the following Accepted Use Policy (AUP). In addition to complying with our Terms of Service, you agree not to use or allow third parties to use the Services provided to you for any of the following purposes:

...

To operate servers for commercial purposes. However, personal, non-commercial use of servers that comply with this AUP is acceptable, including using virtual private networks (VPN) to access services in your home and using hardware or applications that include server capabilities for uses like multi-player gaming, video-conferencing, and home security.
