How to open ANY steam game in windowed mode!
1. Try the combination "Alt + Enter" while ingame.

2. Go to your game folder [Steam installation folder]\Steam\steamapps\common
Find the game you want to run in windowed mode and look for the Application to run the game. Right click it and select create shortcut. Right click shortcut and go into properties. Look for the text field "target". At the VERY end of the text inside it put a space after the speech marks (") and write -w.

(If the above method didn't try 3. This method will not open it in proper windowed mode but it will not run it as fullscreen. It will act as windowed fullscreen mode. This is for Windows 8, not sure if it works on lower)

3. In the properties of the shortcut go to the Compatibility tab and look for Compatibility mode. Check the box and open the dropdown menu to select windows 7.

I hope this works.

Windowed mode is dependent only the developer coding for it. Most do.

Yes I understand that. I have recently purchased Burnout Paradise and it does not support windowed mode the reason being other people might have the same problem with other games. I have been searching everywhere and in the end come up with my own solution. I have written this to help others who have the same problem and options 1 or 2 don't work.

this is not helpful. I'm trying to run Hard Time in windowed mode so that way it wont lag a bunch. I pressed Alt and enter and i clicked minimized in properties and nothing works.:steamsad:

You could also use this program: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2675769
It should work on every game that supports windowed mode. (but not borderless fullscreen, which is basically windowed mode, but placed so that it looks like fullscreen)

I think m dicky put something in one of the config files to let you switch it to running in a small window, I had the same frame issue. Sadly though it seems like games need some kind of toggle programmed in in order to achieve a normal window.

Is there anyway to make this for windowed fullscreen. For example I used this on Dark Souls 2 Scholar and it works in windowed but it's kinda hard to play with such a small window. Silkscreen doesn't work btw.

thx
0. Try changing the settings in-game.

4. Also try Borderless Gaming. It's a donationware app.
