Keep in mind that Microsoft ended support for win 7 in 2020. ESU (Extended Security Update) will most likely add extra 3-4 years; just like it did with win7.

"Windows 11" has double the security - no "Spectre" or "Meltdown" vulnerabilities. "Windows 11" - TPM 2.0. Therefore, I am not sure about the longevity of Windows 10, although I am not saying anything for sure.

The Chromium Embedded Framework that Steam is built upon had upgraded to using TLS 1.3 and Microsoft didn't backport 1.3 into Windows 7. So Steam had to also drop support for Windows 7 once they merged the latest version of CEF into Steam.

I imagine steam will keep windows 10 around till either 2026 or 2027.

I already decided ages ago that Windows 10 is going to be my last Windows version I'm going to be using. I'm switching to Linux for my next computer. If I'm forced to then I'll start training myself on it on this machine before I get the new one. No biggie.

linux is so much easier now than ever before

mint with the cinnamon or xfce desktops is best for us former windows users to start with

it is what i fall back on for my daily driver on my old pc while distro hopping my gamer

End of support for the Steam client is surely going to take the time it takes for CEF to stop supporting W10 and the Steam client to update to said version.

Valve does like to follow orders from Redmond to stop supporting older operating systems, but they do like to wait a few years before bowing down.

Support will drop around 2032 when Windows 10 IoT enterprise support stops.
