I don't remember other lunar sales being so hard to find.

And there is a 3rd party one that Hotsauce linked.
So instead of allowing diversity of many they removed the one.
They changed a few names to be more generic as well.
You don't need to think what Valve was doing. Valve did away with hosting the Lunar Sale for other reasons.

Not to say those discussions drove the change, but it was certainly about making it more generic to the world and less area specific.
I don't really want to dig through 30,000 plus comments I made to search though, so I'll leave it at that.
From a corporate standpoint of being a world wide company it certainly made the most sense at the cheapest cost.
Several other creators also have them, but only for a week and not all the games they show have a discount.
Well they do it for money nothing new . Then what's stopping them from removing or hiding other discounts sales ?

Ergo, it has always been Lunar or New Year sale. Never Chinese (afaik).
Likewise why the Christmas sale is always Winter sale. Because they're global.
So this event being expressly for China is because they have a separate platform.
You always get the "these sales are crap" threads adn when you look deeper it largely boils down to this. You've taken advantage of STeam by buying as much as you wanted in the past so you simply have less games to choose from. That's basic dimishing returns.
The fact that there aren't many games this time on your wishlist that are on sale is just how it goes sometimes.
Because the data you can check showing the number and level of sales have always about remained the same over the years.
Where do you find those news articles? I tried finding them myself in the news feed, but i can never find them. Is there a easy way to find them btw?
Like Halloween, for example.
Not that there's much difference anymore or variety, they're either a small sale or a big one, but nothing different.
The sale comes, you look at the wishlist, maybe some other game, and that's it from day one, then you wait for it to end so that new discounts can come.
Steam killed all the fun out of these sales.
