I do too. I go to places that sell stuff like this. For example, a store called game over video games usually sells cartridges and everything, even hardware. There is also a video game museum close to where i live where you can go and play the games and such there. I plan on donating my stuff to a video game museum when i die.

Yeah, for me I'm British so thankfully we still have plenty of places that not only sell new physical games, but used ones too.

I'm also housebound so it limits me, and yet it's still easy to buy physical. I buy about 300 games every year across a host of platforms. There's tons of shops online that sell physical games, both independent and major companies. Its' great because they all compete rather well and there's always some great deals you can grasp. I haven't spent full price on a game in about 40 years or more.

As for used, it's great too. CEX is a great store that is all around the country. They first popped up as a couple of record and equipemtn based stores, and I came across them buying records. They grew and they're pretty decent.

And of course one still has Ebay and private ads too.

I used to live in australia and always went to those type of stores too. They had these stores called Elizabeth Second hand stores. Very good stores. Wonder if they are still there.

There was even a store that sold used magazines. I used to buy video game magazines from it.

It has Pro's and cons, when I was younger and single I enjoyed collecting the games, later in life once I had a family and realized all the space they take up, I don't miss it as much. I still buy physical games for Switch, but in general I far prefer digital copies for PC games, especially as I get so many at 80% off or more which was much rarer for physical copies of PC games
I miss owning pc games instead of a license that valve can revoke whenever they feel like it.

I mean when you bought physical PC games 99% of the times it had a license key that could be revoked whenever they felt like it too.

I mean people keep bringing up this threat about them being able to revoke license keys, in 20+ years of gaming i've yet to actually meet anyone who had this happen were it wasn't a mistake and promptly resolved.

its like obsessing over the fact that the police can break into your house, fire tear gas thru your windows and blow in your door anytime they want, yet they don't without cause except in very rare mistakes.
Ubisoft revoked an always online racing game after bricking it. Sony will someday brick Gran Turismo 7.

I'm starting to miss the times people actually thought for themselves instead of believing clickbait stuff.
Pretty sure we all do.
It depends. It might be abit more convenient nowadays to buy online, simply because you dont have to drive to the game store. I do miss buying physical copies in one of those "art boxes", however. Seeing a new game on the shelf and picking it up, looking at the cover art and the screenshots on the backside, reading what he game was about and such. :lunar2019piginablanket:

The major reason for me, despite art and all that being nice, is because I don't trust the video game industry.

When I buy games, I buy them to keep because I'm weird in that I'm always confident in my purchases for whatever reason. I only buy what I KNOW I'm going to like.

As such I still have and play games I bought in the 1970s and 80s and onwards. If digital distribution were on the go back then, you can bet there would be no way to access those old games if left to them.

That's why I do it.

Only last night I was going through my PS4 to see what to play and had a bash at FIFA 22. It was free with PS+ some time ago. First message that pops up - the online service has closed. A 2 year old game.

Granted this doesn't affect my gameplay as I can still play single player, but this illustrates how quickly these things are dumped these days.

Yeah but whether it was physical or digital the online portion would have been discontinued. There is a vast difference in keeping servers for old sports games live vs allowing downloads of old games.

I just said that.

I said I wasn't pointing out that the service closes down. I was pointing out that even thoug that is the case, it got shutdown QUICKLY.

Yeah but its a sports game, the online servers for those always get shut down fast as most of the population moves on to the newer games. The only way it doesn't shut down is if they use P2P online play instead of dedicated servers.

You are still missing the point. I KNOW this. I said that.

The point is while it isn't the best example, I was merely pointing out how quickly these things happen and you can't trust the industry to look after stuff.

That's the point. I KNOW it's normal and I know that's how it works.

Its apples and oranges though, trying to compare the sports game servers have nothing remotely in common with digital game purchases.

Yeah the server for that sports game was gone after 2 years, but games I bought on Steam 20 years ago are still downloadable today. The industry looks after stuff that makes sense.

Keeping the games you purchased accessible makes sense, keeping old servers running that no one uses doesn't make sense.
